Denise Ho Felt Betrayed By Joey Yung and Wilfred Lau’s Romance
In the last 5 years, Joey Yung (容祖兒) and Denise Ho’s (何韻詩) relationship was speculated to be more intimate than regular friends. At Joey’s birthday party last week, Denise felt betrayed and deeply hurt when she found out that Joey and Wilfred Lau (劉浩龍) were now hotly in love. The love triangle has resulted in fans taking sides and blasting Wilfred for being a “liar,” while warning Joey to be cautious in trusting him!
Denise Ho Also Dated Wilfred Lau?
Further complicating the love triangle, Denise Ho had allegedly dated Wilfred Lau in the late 1990s. Denise and Wilfred were respective winners of the 1996 and 1997 New Talent Singing Awards. Denise had once described her friendship with Wilfred in the following manner, “He is a friend with whom I had shared hardship. Since we were newcomers, we have experienced difficult periods together. He cares a lot for me and I care a lot for him!”
In 2005, Wilfred started dating Stephanie Cheng (鄭融). At this time, Denise and Joey’s romantic rumors became more prominent. Since Wilfred was good friends with Nicholas Tse (謝霆鋒), Joey and Wilfred met frequently at group gatherings, allowing their friendship to grow over the last 10 years.
Joey and Wilfred’s Romance Takes Root
In April, Joey and Wilfred were photographed sharing a barbecue meal together. To avoid the paparazzi in blowing the news out of proportion, Wyman Wong (黃偉文)–who was also present at the gathering–quickly stepped in and joked that Wilfred was Joey’s “boyfriend of 2012.”
It was understood that Joey and Denise’s relationship had cooled off earlier this year. While filming theatrical production Jia Bao Yu <賈寶玉>, Denise was rumored with costars Jozie Lu (路嘉欣) and Deng Jiuyun (鄧九雲). When appearing at the 10th Anniversary of her fan club in the beginning of June, Denise had already removed her matching bracelet that she had once shared with Joey, indicating that the relationship was over.
Since Joey resumed her single status, she and Wilfred spent more time together over the last few months. Two weeks ago, Wilfred started to intensely pursue Joey. An insider revealed, “Joey has many work commitments, requiring her to travel overseas. Two weeks ago, Wilfred vowed to pursue Joey. Whenever Joey had a bit of free time, Wilfred would send her a text message or call her to show his utmost concern and love for her well being. They only started to officially date in recent days. A woman wants someone to care and love her. Since they have been friends for more than 10 years, they understand each other very well.”
Wilfred Shockingly Admits Dating Joey
At a press conference for new CTI drama, Second Life <第二人生>, Wilfred admitted that he and Joey have just started dating. Wilfred said, “I’m quite happy!” Asked whether he had passed the 3-month trial period, Wilfred said, “We have to pass it before we know!”
Wilfred said that he has known Joey for 10 years and understood her well. “She is a good girl; many people like her. I also like her very much. I have not dated for 4 years. If I were to come across a suitable prospect, I would love to ‘understand more.'”
Wilfred was prepared to deal with the public pressure after acknowledging that he was dating Joey. Wilfred said, “I put my heart forward and will do my best. I will face everything myself, since I am a man!”
Asked whether Denise was indeed angered by Joey’s new romance, Wilfred said, “The first person that I have told this matter (dating Joey) to was Denise Ho… I told her in person.” As for Denise’s response, Wilfred said, “I will let her (Denise) provide the answer. Anyhow, Joey and I had started dating when both of us were single.” Wilfred maintained that Denise will always be his friend.
It was understood that Wilfred only intended to admit that he possessed good feelings in Joey. At the press conference, Wilfred said too much and it became an acknowledgement that they were both dating, startling even Joey!
Denise Ho Felt Betrayed
Wilfred claimed that he and Joey had started dating when both of them were single, drawing a clear line that Joey had already ended her relationship with Denise. Yet, Denise still felt betrayed by her allegedly “ex-lovers” now dating each other! While Wilfred claimed that he had told Denise of the dating news in person, another version of the story leaked out that Joey had announced the news instead.
Joey celebrated her 32nd birthday with 40 friends last week at a karaoke party. Wilfred was present, while Denise rushed to the party after a music performance in Guangzhou. Allegedly, Denise did not arrive at the birthday party until 2 AM. When Denise walked in, a drunk Joey told Denise that she and Wilfred were now dating.
With Denise’s obvious distress, Joey pulled Denise to the side and continued to console her. Meanwhile, Wilfred continued to party wildly with the other guests. After this version of the story circulated, fans were quick to blast Wilfred as a liar. He had initially claimed that he told Denise about dating Joey, yet it was actually Joey who had announced the hurtful news to Denise. Wilfred had only made such a statement in order to fully stand behind Joey.
After Joey consoled her, Denise stayed at Joey’s birthday party until 5 AM, pretending that nothing had happened. However, Denise’s distress was still obvious. The next morning, she wrote on Weibo, “Without much effort and knifing through the organs directly, it is usually from the people that you trust the most. If these things repeat themselves again, then I can only admit that I am too stupid!” Denise reportedly purchased last minute flight tickets to Taiwan, in a rush to escape from her wounded feelings.
Denise has since stopped following Joey and Wilfred on Instagram, although she did not discontinue following them on Weibo yet.
Regarding Joey and Wilfred’s romance, Denise blogged, “The world is so large and we are so small. There is nothing worthwhile to say anymore. Life just goes on. Let us focus our attention on the truly important things. Thank you everyone for your concern. I will share your love once again.”
Both of Denise’s parents have been vocal in supporting Denise’s hurt feelings. Her mother wrote on Weibo, “Be clear about your direction and you will definitely live better!” Denise’s father wrote, “Life spans several decades. However, compared to the eternal universe, our experiences are minuscule. There is a bright road ahead.” Mr. Ho indicated that gains and losses were tests in life. A loss may be a blessing in disguise. Many fans rallied to support Denise as well, in which Denise immediately blew kisses in return.
Joey and Wilfred Receive Blessings from Friends
Since Wilfred’s public admission that he and Joey’s romance had sprouted recently, Joey has shied from the public eye. She wrote on Weibo, “Thank you for everyone’s well wishes.”
Joey and Wilfred’s friends have been quick to congratulate the couple. Nicholas Tse wrote that the couple had indeed starting dating while both were single, dispelling any possible cheating rumors. Andy Hui (許志安) teased Wilfred in making better basketball shots since he has been lucky in love.
Joey and Wilfred Able to Bridge Distance?
As one of Hong Kong’s top singers, Joey Yung’s wealth reportedly was valued at $300 million HKD. However, Wilfred’s career had yet to experience a surge. Since Wilfred announced that he was dating Joey, this has angered Denise’s fans. Some fans urged Joey to be cautious towards Wilfred and not trust him so easily.
At the same time, rumors claimed that Joey still loved Denise and has not emotionally detached herself from their former relationship. It was reported that since 2007, Joey and Denise had possessed matching lovers’ bracelets, in which Joey has continued to wear the bracelet.
Denise was not the only person deeply hurt by Joey and Wilfred’s new dating relationship. Director Heison Ng was rumored to be intensely pursuing Joey earlier this year. The pair often exchanged playful messages online. Heison wrote, “I am like a scented tissue. When the scent is gone, you will wipe and toss it aside. It is as if the tissue never existed!” Heison’s message implied that he felt “used” and “dumped” when no longer of use.
With Denise and Heison’s reactions of deep hurt, Joey and Wilfred’s relationship will receive an added level of pressure. Joey is expected to make a comment about her new romance at a TVB music recording later today.

its just my personal opinion, I never supported the same gender relationship but I have nothing against them. I think same gender relationship won’t have a complete future as in having a normal marriage life, having kids and etc. Its just different..for example..when you need a man to do a “hard” job..and your partner is just a woman even if she acted as male in the relationship, she still possess strength of a woman which in the end..won’t be able to help at all. There is still something lacking in this kind of relationship.

If both Joey and Wilfred were single before they started dating then I don’t find anything wrong with the two of them hooking up. Sure Denise will feel betrayed by her so called ‘good’ friends but if her relationship already ended with the two of them beforehand then it’s all fair game.

According to Joey and Wilfred, both of them were single when they started dating. However, breaking up can mean different things to different people. Do you have to say the words, “Let’s break up?” Or it’s implied when you no longer call or see the person for a certain amount of time? Even if the two criteria are fulfilled, you may not be able to emotionally withdraw from the relationship yet.
My interpretation is that Denise felt betrayed because she was told so suddenly about Joey and Wilfred’s romance. When Joey and Wilfred were caught on a BBQ date in April, the photos circulated. Denise made a joke about the incident, “I am willing to hand over Joey with both hands [to Wilfred].” Her joke implies that Wilfred is considered to be only a friend that will never date Joey.
Denise apparently still has feelings towards Joey. Denise felt betrayed because she was not informed about the change in Joey and Wilfred’s relationship earlier on. Since Denise is good friends with both Joey and Wilfred, the not knowing, after other friends such as Wyman Wong and possibly Nicholas Tse knew in advance, may have made Denise feel as if she were a fool in all this.

Due to Denise’s emotional blog messages about disappointment and betrayal and her parents immediate messages of support, it is obvious that Denise has been suffering heartbreak. Since she discontinued following both Joey and Wilfred on Instagram, Denise is obviously upset at them right now.
Wilfred’s response implies that Denise is upset at him.
Joey’s response that she will always consider Denise to be a friend implies that there was a recent fallout.
I wonder if this will get all complicated like the whole Ekin, Gigi Leung and Maggie Siu issue back then??? I have a feeling that it will.
