Jayne: My favorite contestant is #8 Summer Lau; he is the oldest contestant at 35 years old. Since he works as a Financial Consultant and aspires to be a program host, I am guessing that he is quite articulate. In the past Mr. Hong Kong contests, the female judges are pretty harsh towards inarticulate men. If he has decent muscles and a good talent performance, he may have a good chance in winning!
Who is your favorite?
The profiles sound more like dating ads. Who would you date? I find Cocolate’s profile to be quite cute; I like guys into martial arts.
Notice that everyone said they joined the competition to challenge themselves. The competition itself is not difficult as long as you possess the confidence not to crumble before an audience and not to think of yourself as a stripper, while water jets spray at your topless form amidst screaming women in the audience. And all the guys prefer understanding and gentle women. 🙂
Due to time constraints, I translated only the most interesting parts of the contestants’ profiles. For the complete profile in Chinese (and partially in English for some contestants), click here:

” Hopes to partner with Anita Mui the most, due to her talent as a performer.
This answer is kinda eerie.
” Hopes to partner with Handelababy.”
Hahahahahah!
angus is a asshole in real life
I agree with you, Jayne. I think #8 or maybe #10 might stand a chance. Maybe I have to wait till better pictures come out to take a closer look, but some of these pics don’t do them justice. Just on these face shots, I think 8 and 10 look the best. The rest are either too young or cocky looking for my liking.
yeaaa. I see that linda chung is very likeable among the contestants. ye ye 🙂 But who wouldn’t right? 😉 linda’s awesome.
When pictures first released, I noticed #10 immediately. He has a really nice, bright eye smile and resembles Tse Kwan Ho imo. I think he and #8 have a good chance. But TVB is in critical need of young males, so they might opt for the others.
Jayne, you probably already know this but there are clearer pictures at http://mrhk.tvb.com/2010/ and each of them have their own blogs there as well. 🙂
Annisa, thanks for the link. William is charming, he seems to have a good body. The press has pegged him as “ATV Michael Miu” since he was placed in the ATV Mr. Asia contest previously. He is experienced in this kind of competition, so that gives him an advantage.
If TVB promoted their prior Mr. HK competitors more, a higher quality batch of applicants would come forward. Aside from Matthew Ko (whose momentum has slowed down btw), the other Mr. HKs were not cast in very prominent roles.
I like the favourites of number #10. Kinda cute and unusual.
Favourite song: 一青窈:かざぐるま
Favourite person: Prince Shōtoku from Gag Manga Biyori
Favourite food; Salmon fish
Most disliked food: none
Favourite colours: Red, black
Favourite animal: Rabbit and monkey (because he likes Mashimaro and Monchichi)
Favourite film or series: –
Place most wanted to visit: Tibet
Dear lord! All of them look so… so…ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
I love looking at pretty guys such as Daniel Wu, Lee Hom, and so on but Mr HK competition still doesn’t attract me. Good luck to the guys anyway 🙂
Masaharu, if the guys are as attractive/talented as Daniel and Lee Hom, they would have been scouted by talent agency already, no need to join Mr Hong Kong.
However, there are a few unpolished gems that have joined Mr HK, such as Stephen Huynh (in my book).
Stephen Huynh is good looking with a beautiful body, but in my book he’s not suitable for acting. Perhaps better for modelling?
Masaharu, he’s not that bad in acting (compared to some young actor), but his speech/accent is hindering is progress in getting more roles and exposure in TVB.
Stephen Huynh is a good looking guy even if on the short side BUT his acting is not up to par unless he acts more in the background, improve a bit maybe. His accent is not the problem but the acting in general. However yes he is a good looking guy.
” if the guys are as attractive/talented as Daniel and Lee Hom, they would have been scouted by talent agency already, no need to join Mr Hong Kong.”
But not all get scouted due to looks and all. Admit it! The guys above, aiyo! Like that can be Mr HK. It is as if HK has no good looking guys! No. 10 looks ok but still!!
I say this and I have said this and I shall continue to say this that if TVB is serious in finding new talents, scrap the whole Miss and Mr HK nonsense and go straight to Star Search like Singapore, give the vote to the public to find the next new talent!
Enough of all these Mr and Miss HK where none of them looks pretty or handsome at all. The quality is getting worse and joke is some of these participants are not even from HK!
LOL reading back I think I made myself look so shallow. I think it’s not about the looks in “my book”. I like Bosco Wong and Chapman To(the same amount I like Daniel Wu and Lee Hom) and they for sure aren’t labelled as attractive, nor are they the best actors but there’s just *something* that fits me hahaha.
Back on earth, yes Funn that’s it, there’s something awkward and not genuine in Stephen’s acting.
My suggestion is to improve the show itself. I agree with Funn, why not make a talent search reality show instead of a show where some “muscle-man” parading their muscles? A talent show will give the contestants better reputation and prestige. Oh my TVB @_@
I’m all for star search for scouting new talents but having watch some US reality talent shows I wouldn’t give the last vote to the public, who usually voted for their favorites instead of the most talented of the batch.
No, give public the vote because if not TVB will rig the whole thing and isn’t that the same at the end? I will take a chance with the HK public.
No give the public the vote. If not TVB will let who they want to win. I have more faith in HK public or just adopt the farce 20% poll, 20% public, 60% TVB, or whatever!
I agree with you Funn Lim, I think that they public should vote or recommend. There are many many good-looking pple out there that would not think of joining such competition, have not heard of such competition, or whatever the reason is. The contestant up there, none of the above.
Hi guys! Do you happen to know what Fala, Bernice, and Linda did as their talent when they entered beauty pageants?? Thanks!
i think linda performed with multiple hoola hoops
I watch the MCI Fala participated in. I don’t remember it having a performance section. Instead they have 2 Q&A sections. In is the normal Q&A, while the other asked the contestants to say the advantages of various chinese product over western product e.g, pan vs wok, fork vs chopstick etc
I rmb that Bernice danced.
Mr Hong Kong isn’t actually serious pageant so I love it and I think its absolutely hilarious! If there are hot guys that’s a plus but if not, its funny to watch 😀
Going for William Chak and Ronan Pak cause they seem the most attractive 😀
I wonder why there’s only 10 contestants…were there always 10? I can’t remember…
[…] and some pictures, I can see he has a nice sense of humor. (You can read the translation here @ Jaynestars.com) He came off so serious though, but I guess he’s probably quirky too (me like me like)! I […]
