Dickson Yu Counts His Blessings After Near-Death Experience
Dickson Yu (余德丞) was filming for TVB show Liza’s Online 2 <娛樂大家> where he is one of the hosts. When asked about his thoughts on the sudden news of Godfrey Gao’s (高以翔) passing after a sudden collapse on the filming set, Dickson learned of it through text messages from his friends. He is saddened by the news, and it brought back memories of his close brush with death last year.
In August 2018, Dickson fell unconscious while playing soccer and his heart stopped for 15 minutes. Waking up from a coma later at the hospital, Dickson cherishes life more after his near death experience. “There have been many unfortunate news this year, a billiards athlete, and a middle school student also passed away for similar reasons. I am very lucky to have woken up from my coma and to be able to speak with the media. I have fully recovered and have already resumed my usual lifestyle. I hope that everyone treasures their life and realize that you’re not invincible just because you are young. It is important to know your limits.”
Dickson has started exercising again. Other than soccer, he also spends time at the gym but he will not push himself to his maximum again. Dickson’s fainting was due to arrhythmia – irregular heartbeat. “This disease has no symptoms, so I encourage everyone to have regular body checks. I check in with my doctor about every half a year.”
