Dickson Yu Has Fallen Into a Coma

It has reported that TVB actor and former competitive swimmer Dickson Yu (余德丞) is currently fighting for his life in the ICU.

The 28-year-old, best known for his appearance on the travel show Fantastic Myanmar (緬甸奇幻旅程) and playing “Ocean” in the TVB drama My Ages Apart <誇時代>, suddenly fell unconscious while playing soccer with his friends late Wednesday night in Sai Ying Pun.

According to a report, Dickson started to feel unwell about 10 minutes after the game started, and stepped aside to rest. Dickson pulled his shirt all the way up to his chin and was sprawled in all fours on the grass. His body turned stiff and then started twitching. His friends, who were sitting on a bench near him, started to notice differences in Dickson’s appearance about two minutes later. After realizing that Dickson had lost consciousness, they called the police and ambulance. One of his friends, who is a nurse, immediately started to perform CPR. The ambulance arrived ten minutes later.

Reports say Dickson did not regain consciousness as he was being taken to the hospital. He is currently staying in the ICU.

Dickson’s mother has since appeared in the hospital three times. Entertainers Yuri Chan (蕊蕊), Jarryd Tam (譚永浩), and Kimmi Tsui (徐玟晴) arrived at the hospital at around 2 a.m., but they were not allowed to visit Dickson. Kimmi was also seen crying on Yuri’s shoulder.

At around 3 a.m. Dickson’s mother and his manager visited Dickson in the ICU. They left around 10 minutes later. Half an hour later, colleagues Sisley Choi (蔡思貝) and Roxanne Tong (湯洛雯) arrived for a visit.

At 11 a.m. the next day, Dickson’s mother arrived at the hospital again, telling reporters frantically, “I was told to come here!” Dickson’s manager, friends, and Sisley came as well. About 20 minutes later, Dickson’s mother left. Asking about his condition, Dickson’s manager said, “There’s nothing to say. We already said everything.” In a later interview, his manager clarified, “He’s still being observed. We are all waiting for the doctor’s report.”

Dickson’s fans, including a young two-year-old, left gifts for him. Former TVB artists Zee Lee (李雯希) also came, but was denied a visit in his room. According to a report, many of Dickson’s female colleagues including Louisa Mak (麥明詩), Tiffany Lau (劉穎璇), and Kaman Kong (江嘉敏) were told by their management to not visit Dickson to prevent rumors from stirring.

Sisley told reporters, “It happened so suddenly. We were all just in the Line Walker <使徒行者> game show group chat, and Michael Miu (苗僑偉) asked if Dickson was okay. It was then when we realized that he was hospitalized. I hope it’s just a heat stroke.”

As of today, it’s been reported that Dickson is still unconscious, but is no longer in critical condition. A source said his sudden fainting may be due to myocarditis, or inflammation of the heart muscle.
