Dilireba’s Life Behind the Camera isn’t So Glamorous

As one of the highest paid actresses in China, Dilireba (迪丽热巴) is a modern-day superstar. Wherever she goes, she would always have a team of assistants trailing behind her—makeup artists, stylists, gofers. But according to the 27-year-old, she actually prefers living an independent life.

“I don’t need a team of assistants in my personal life,” she said. “Washing clothes, going shopping, running errands, commuting to film sets… I could do all of that myself.”

She shared that whenever she has to stay in a hotel for over three days, she would always bring extra materials to wash her own clothes.

“I use a tub to wash my down coats and jeans,” she revealed. When the interviewer expressed shocked that she would do chores like that, Dilireba said, “Isn’t that what normal people do?”

The interviewer pointed out that superstars like Dilireba aren’t expected to do mundane chores, because they have a team of helpers at their disposal. Dilireba explained, “In front of the camera, it’s true that I have a lot of assistants. That makes you stand out, seem more powerful. Every time we attend a function, the company has to send out a few managers, assistants, promoters, cameramen, makeup artists, etc. They have do work.”

Dilireba said that before she got famous, she also assumed that celebrities live a very privileged life, wearing luxury brands and having a team of servants. Life seemed perfect, but Dilireba realizes that it doesn’t have to be that way.

“I wear hotel slippers, I use their hair products. Sometimes I don’t even wash my hair everyday. In private, I am a normal girl. When I don’t have to do makeup, I won’t. I’m always wearing makeup. Sometimes, it’s good to relax your skin for a day.”
