Dilraba Dilmurat and Arthur Chen to Star in “Love Beyond the Grave”?

Dilraba Dilmurat (迪麗熱巴) had a tough time last year as both her dramas The Legend of Anle <安樂傳> and Prosecution Elites <公訴> met disappointing ratings. Her appearance in variety shows Divas Hit the Road <花兒與少年> and The Truth <開始推理吧> were more well-received.

It was rumored Dilraba would start filming for a new historical drama Love Beyond the Grave <慕胥辭> in August. The drama is adapted from the novel of the same name and centers around a ghost from 400 years ago. One day, she is taken as a war prize by the cunning, young general after battle. He takes good care of her and they both rely on each other.

The drama’s lead actor will be director Chen Kaige’s (陳凱歌) son Arthur Chen (陳飛宇). Unfortunately, his image was ruined after photos of him in bed with an influencer were leaked. Due to Arthur’s scandal, Dilraba’s fans feel the drama may not be well-received while Arthur’s fans are adamant he should not play second fiddle to her.

Love Beyond the Grave’s director will be Zoe Qin (秦榛), who directed Lost You Forever <長相思>. While Zoe’s initial dramas were directed with a lot of attention to detail, her recent dramas do not have the same quality especially with the odd change in camera angles.

The script will be helmed by four screenwriters including Tang Qicen (湯祈岑), Song Tang (宋唐), Yu Zhancheng (俞展成), and Huai Xu (淮序). Netizens predicted the script quality would be poor based on their past works. All of these reasons led to Dilraba’s fans asking her to reconsider her decision in accepting a role in the drama.
