Dilraba Dilmurat and Arthur Chen’s Bogus Kiss Scene
Currently working on Love Beyond the Grave <慕胥辭> alongside Arthur Chen Feiyu (陳飛宇), a kiss scene between Actress Dilraba Dilmurat (迪麗熱巴) and Arthur in a sea of flowers was recently critiqued for lacking chemistry, and exposed by fans using a camera trick!
Dilraba’s Thick Makeup Was Criticized
Facing several challenges while filming Love Beyond the Grave, Dilraba’s styling was initially criticized for being outdated, and fans also remarked on her makeup being “too heavy”, leading to comments that she looks more the villain than a heroine, and found it hard to imagine her having any on-screen chemistry with lead actor Arthur Chen, who was eight years her junior. Some even suggested that she seemed to pair better with the onscreen villain played by 34-year-old Miles Wei (魏哲鳴), who is closer to her age. After strong protests from fans, Dilraba’s styling has noticeably improved, and filming progressed more smoothly.
Recently, behind-the-scenes footage of a kiss scene between Dilraba and Chen Feiyu showed the two standing in a sea of flowers under the night sky. Chen Feiyu gently places a flower crown on Dilraba’s head, and they slowly lean in closer. Just as they are about to kiss, Dilraba’s lips hover near Chen Feiyu’s cheek and neck. While the two appeared to be kissing from a distance, they are in fact not. This has led to speculation that the kiss was filmed using a camera trick, and while it looked romantic, fans complained about the lack of chemistry and sparks between the two, with many expressing disappointment that the leads did not share a real kiss, though some were drawn to their height difference.
Not the first time that she has used tricks in kiss scenes, her “kiss” with Leo Wu had been humorously replaced with footage of two kissing parrots in 2021 drama The Long Ballad, which became a joke in the industry. Others defended the two artists, suggesting that the leaked footage might just be a rehearsal, or maybe the director intended for the kiss to be subtle right from the start, believing it’s best to wait for the official release to get the full picture.
A Love Story Transcending Time
Based on Carrying a Lantern in Daylight <白日提燈>, a novel by Li Qing Ran (黎青燃), the drama tells the story of a talented ghost king, He Simu (Dilraba), and a cunning young general, Duan Xu (Arthur Chen). The two characters test each other, with He Simu uncovering Duan Xu’s dark past and ambitions, while Duan Xu learns about He Simu’s perseverance and loneliness. Together, they use their love to resist the passage of time, as their destinies intertwine, and they protect the beauty of the human world.
Dilraba, who previously starred in hit dramas like You Are My Glory <你是我的榮耀> with Yang Yang (楊洋), The Blue Whisper <與君初相識·恰似故人歸> with Ren Jialun (任嘉倫), and The Long Ballad <長歌行> with Leo Wu Lei (吳磊), Rosy Zhao Lusi (趙露思), and Liu Yuning (劉宇寧), has risen to the top as a leading female star. Meanwhile, Arthur gained popularity from Lighter and Princess <點燃我,溫暖你>.

I like her enough but we need to expose how she’s the one that always gate block the kisses. I remembered back in the flame daughter, her fans blamed Vic Zhou for not doing the kissing scenes, saying because he’s married with kiss. Yet he did beauties in the closet n he kissed with Hu bingqing, no problem. Then she did the same with Wu Lei, n again, he got blamed for being the one blocked the kiss scene, her fans were like he has the no kissing clause in his contract. Yet later on, he went on kissing Zhao Jin Mai like crazy. N now this, and we know Arthur Chen can kiss and do not mind so. Pretty sure if ppl are too old or too young, she would refuse to kiss them. Either to protect her image or she just doesn’t like it. Either way, pretty sure it’s all stemmed from her n hence why she has so much trouble with chemistry. She seems to be a quite guarded person, nothing wrong with that. But that’s why ppl said she can’t act, can’t chemistry, she needs to move away from idol drama imo
The Long Ballad was the only show I was able to finish of DD. She was ok but I did like the storyline and Leo Wu that was the reason I was to finish. I didn’t know she had that kind of power over kissing scenes? I thought it was bc Leo Wu was too young and never did kissing scenes prior so hence that weird bird kissing scene. LOL..But my friends did watch her in her other shows and she did do alot of kissing w YANG YANG and that fish guy forgot his full name. I saw some clips, she did has lot of scenes w those other male costars. But I just didn’t know she has the kind of power to do or not do kissing scenes. haha Lol….That’s interesting.
The fish guy XD lol, Ren Jia Lun. This is the exact same debate I/many had with RJL’s fans. It used to be “rumoured” (later on proven) that RJL doesn’t do kissing scenes. Many pointed out that he kissed in the glory of tang, so that couldn’t be true. Until dramas after dramas, his kissing scenes were awkward and always angled weirdly. He also received massive hit after the popular One and only, but mainly for Forever and Ever, because we got zero kissing scene (well, 1 with lighting, and angle that many weren’t sure how much of it is actual kissing and how much of it is just lips touching and camera tricks XD). And the hit was violent and strong because OnO was so popular and soooo heartbreaking, after such heartbreaking, the pay off was rather weak *facepalm. Especially because RJL was paired with BL, who is known for smoking hot kisses! And we had pretty meh kissing scene lol (one of them was shadow kiss *roll eyes).
Anyway, right after that, he filmed the fish drama with DD, and the two of them had something to prove and they actually release the kissing scene quite early on, to combat the backlash against RJL for having the kissing clause lol.
I think both him and DD will kiss if the script is built for it/very popular/high pressure from director, etc. but if they see the script is weak, the kissing scenes are not often and therefore not important, and the director isn’t someone they need to please, they will body double/not kissing. Or they just do a few drama where they don’t need to kiss, then when ppl yell at them, they do one with lots of kissing, and say hey, you guys think too much. Anyway, it’s just a patterned with them. I’ve been seeing DD since TMOPB, while not watching that many dramas of her (to competition), but I kind check out enough of them to kinda see the pattern lol. She possibly does have a sugar daddy that she doesn’t want to offend. IDC tbqh, whether she kisses or not, but if u r not, just don’t do idol lol. Like if u r clearly uncomfortable, just do things that you like? She has plenty of money and advertisement endorsements that she will never be poor *face palm. All she’s doing is bring more backlashes and pressures for herself when she doesn’t need to be.
Oh sorry, it seems I didn’t nail my point lol. Point is many don’t think their stars have that sort of power on the whole kissing scenes. But RJL (who was not as popular as DD), was proven to actually did have that clause in his contract. It’s not far fetch to think DD also has the same power. Whether she wants to exercise it or not, it’s up to her. Like I said, atm, it seems she only has issues with guys who is way too young or way too old. So basically if they are more than 5yrs older or younger than her, no kissing!
LOL…I am sorry the fish guy I didn’t mean RJL haha….I don’t know much about him except I never find him attractive in any way but I know he’s kind of popular. The fish guy to the mainland refers to 黄景瑜 hahaha…Like I said I didn’t watch anything in completion of DD other than The Long Ballad and that’s due to cutie Leo Wu. So my friends watched her other series and they said she kissed like crazy with Yang Yang n the fish guy. I have no interest on those series but I did glimpsed and she did kiss ass kissing scenes with them so it was odd that there was no kissing scenes at all on the TLB. But whatever you said could be very true and very interesting insight. When you are in demand enough, you probably get to have alot of say in alot of those intimate scenes. I remember watching William Chan’s A Date With The Future and many were shocked by the kissing or should we say underaged kissing pecks. haha lol…William Chan clearly can kiss in any of his other shows or movies but in there, it was just really horrible but of course I think mainly it was due to the actress as well she really didn’t look like she can kiss at all. ahha lol..But then again the 2nd main couple also can NOT kiss so for that series, it’s probably all to the director’s NO DEMAND for any sort of kissing. Sometimes, I don’t get those dramas and directors; it’s ok if they do NOT do kissing at all but to do fake kisses is so fake and uncomfortable so sometimes you rather they just eliminate kissing scenes if none of them can kiss or need them to kiss. That’s totally fine as well.
