Dilraba Dilmurat’s Styling in “Love on the Turquoise Land” is Criticized

Dilraba Dilmurat (迪麗熱巴) and Chen Xingxu (陳星旭) started filming for Love on the Turquoise Land <梟起青壤> in mid-March. The drama is adapted from Wei Yu‘s (尾魚) suspense novel of the same name. The story revolves around a beautiful and intelligent sculptor whose secret identity is an assassin and a descendant of the Tangtou Army. She originally wanted to live a quiet life and sculpt, until she meets Chen Xingxu, a wealthy young man. The two progress from strangers to partners on many adventures to fight against evil forces.

After viewing behind-the-scenes footage, netizens were excited about Dilraba and Chen Xingxu’s compatible good looks but were taken aback at their seeming lack of chemistry. The atmosphere even felt a bit awkward. In addition, neither seemed to demonstrate the strong aura of the novel’s hero and heroine.

Photos of Dilraba’s five costumes were leaked and netizens were dismayed at the baggy and unkempt clothing choices. The first set of clothing is a brown suit jacket paired with a mustard linen long skirt and avocado green bag shoes. The style is quite artistic, but it makes her character seem too soft. The second set is a brown plaid jacket paired with wide, ripped denim jeans which is paired with a bohemian white silk scarf. The overall color scheme is messy and a bit bleak. The third set is a wide white drawstring hoodie paired with wide denim jeans. As both the upper and lower garments are loose, Dilraba’s fit physique is covered and she seems bloated. The fourth set is a large plaid shirt worn with a green knitted cardigan. The fifth set is a black and white checkered coat with jeans. Her hair appears neat, but netizens criticized Dilraba’s outfit looks like a tablecloth.

Despite the backlash, Dilraba’s costumes are not cheap. The jacket from the first outfit set is 1,200 Chinese yuan; the skirt is CNY 278; and the green shoes are CNY 1,600. The ripped jeans from the second set costs CNY 1,161 and the white hoodie and denim wide pants from the third set cost CNY 1,950 and CNY 1,450. Netizens joked the clothes look like “rags” and only Dilraba could pull them off. The heroine in the book had a refreshing and neat image. Netizens felt that they should have at least kept the standard from the first media event where Dilraba wore a long leather jacket and green circle lens.

In addition, pictures of Dilraba and Chen Xingxu seemingly relaxing on the street were leaked. They both appeared to be very shy and they hesitated for a long time before they finally looked directly at each other. In another set of photos, they were filming a passionate kissing scene in a car but unfortunately it was hard to see clearly as the frame of the car covered their faces. They were holding hands and looking at each other in other photos. Based on these photos, netizens hope Dilraba and Chen Xingyu’s chemistry will build.
