Director Wong Jing Insults Keung To

Known for his brazen speech, Hong Kong director Wong Jing (王晶) got into the spotlight recently again for insulting boy group MIRROR member Keung To (姜濤)!

Pivoting to YouTube in recent years, Wong Jing started his channel “Wong Ching comments on showbiz” where he spills about his observations on the entertainment industry over the years and little known showbiz stories, including insider details on actress Carina Lau‘s (劉嘉玲) kidnapping many years ago, causing an immediate ruckus.

Later Deletes Controversial Post

In a recent Weibo post, the 69-year-old uploaded several of singer and actor Keung To’s photos and wrote, “Best of Hong Kong? Are you crazy? Fat figure, with a squawky choice and poor dancing! Just kill me, HK elite! Please get out of showbiz.” Nicknamed “master of crappy cinema”, critiques often describe Wong Jing’s cinematic works as crass, though many also acknowledge that while his films are crude, he can nevertheless he considered a master in the directing world and is responsible for bringing half of HK audiences into cinemas, though he chose the commercial route.

On the evening of April 12, Keung To posted a short video on his Instagram captioned with “Sh” and “Smile”, and another on his Threads platform where he wrote “Can only laugh it off…”, in an alleged response to Wong Jing’s insults. Wong Jing was found to have deleted his critical post the following day, and posted to publicize about his involvement in upcoming mainland variety show Memories Beyond Horizon 3 <無限超越班3> instead.

  1. He has his fans so maybe the criticism is uncalled for. But Wong Jing came from a literary background. He may have built his career on trash cinema, he is already a learned guy who writes well and his calligraphy is great. I was surprised at that. And fine, he has a point. Thats why HK music is dying.
