Disney’s “Mulan” Releases Action-Packed Final Trailer
Disney’s live action movie, Mulan <花木蘭> will arrive in theaters on March 27. The final trailer, which was released yesterday, showcases impressive martial arts scenes.
Crystal Liu (劉亦菲), who plays the titular female warrior, was seen battling it out with Gong Li (鞏俐). Besides the two females, Jet Li (李連杰) and Donnie Yen (甄子丹) also made appearances in the new clip. The new trailer places a focus on Gong Li’s villainous character as the powerful shapeshifting witch, Xian Lang, who teams up with the villain, Bori Khan – an evil Hun warrior set out to avenge his father’s death.
While the movie is set to premiere in March, the global box office results may be affected by the coronavirus outbreak in China where multiple cities with total population of nearly 60 million people are in lockdown. With coronavirus cases surpassing 20,000 as of Monday, the number of confirmed cases is expected to continue rising this month.
While theaters in Hong Kong remain open, local support for Mulan may be lukewarm due to Crystal’s Weibo post last year indicating her support for the police amid protests. There are worries that some may choose to boycott the movie because of her political stance.
