*Spoilers
JTBC’s Doctor Cha aired its finale on June 4, with major characters finally untangling from their complex romantic feelings and finding their own happiness.
Dr. Cha (Uhm Jung Hwa) finally decided to divorce her cheating husband Seo In Ho (Kim Byung Chul) and accept a liver transplant surgery. After recovering, she opens her own medical clinic but turns down younger surgeon Roy Kim (Min Woo Hyuk) . The drama ends with Dr. Cha saying, “I am very grateful to be able to continue living and allowing myself to see all in life. I trust that I will continue to be happy.”
The finale received an average viewership of 18.546 percent which is the highest since the drama started airing. Grateful for the support, Uhm Jung Hwa did not expected the drama to be so successful. “I had only hoped that the ratings would be above 10 percent, but I was shocked and happy as the ratings continued to rise. [The premiere episode’s] ratings of 4.9 percent was already decent. Everyone gave such good reviews.–I was so grateful that I cried when I saw them the next day.”
As goals for the future, the actress said, “At 39 years old, I released my album DISCO. At that time I wanted to be a role model for my juniors, a guiding light for when they feel lost. I feel like I’ve already achieved that goal so I don’t have any set goals for the next ten years. I’m going to continue down life’s path and see where it leads me.”
