Donnie Yen Wants To Continue the Spirit of “Ip Man”
The Hong Kong premiere for Ip Man 3 <葉問3> was held on December 16. Donnie Yen (甄子丹), Max Zhang (張晉), Raymond Wong (黃百鳴), Karena Ng (吳千語), Lynn Hung (熊黛林), and more attended the red carpet event which was held at a cinema in Kowloon Bay.
Produced by Raymond Wong and directed by Wilson Yip (葉偉信), Ip Man 3 is the third installment of the Ip Man film series, which stars Donnie Yen as the titular wing chun grandmaster. The highly anticipated third film also stars Mike Tyson, who portrays an American boxer called Frank.
During interviews, Donnie joked that he received “no salary” for his work on Ip Man 3. Raymond Wong admitted that finding funds for the film were difficult. Donnie then said, “Companies always say that they don’t have enough money, and a lot even complain about how actors receive too much. But in the end, we’re all still happily talking about doing a fourth film. The executives are different from the actors. They have to think from a business point of view. Actors think in terms of art and creativity.”
Upon hearing this, the reporters immediately asked Donnie if the studio was planning to make more Ip Man movies. He said, “I don’t know how many. Then again, I also was not expecting to shoot a third film after five years since the last one. The reason why it took so long was because Raymond Wong was waiting for Wilson Yip. Only [Wilson] can accurately depict the spirit of the films. If we are to film a fourth one, I hope I won’t have to wait too long.”
Donnie expressed that the Ip Man films have attracted many fans across the world, and he is confident that Ip Man 3 will be just as successful as the last two films. He said he will continue to be Ip Man as long as the studios want him to.
“In the last eight years, Ip Man has become a cultural figure, and I am very proud. I think it is worth it to continue this dream for the world. Ip Man is not only a movie. It is also a kind of spirit. When we watch movies, we all expect to find hope, encouragement, and inspiration in them. I think Ip Man has successfully managed to do that.”

I would rather he start on another epic than milk off Ipman. It is not that his Ip Man movies were not great, but it has been overdone. I think a trilogy is a good place to stop.
his next epic will be star wars roque one,no doubt this movie will become a big hit and hopefully he can milk his way in hollywood,i want to see him in marvel movies.
Funny thing because in this interview he said IP MAN 3 is intended to be his list Yip Man movie as well as kung fu (movies about historical kung fu masters) movie. Guess he will continue with kung fu movies after all.
