Dylan Wang Has Fans Excited Over New Police Role
Soaring to popularity with Love Between Fairy and Devil <蒼蘭訣>, actor Dylan Wang’s (王鶴棣) new detective drama Light to the Night <黑夜告白> in which he pairs with Pan Yueming (潘粤明) garnered 9.85 million views in under 7 hours of premiere!
Dylan Surprises in Police Officer Role
Joining the ranks of A-listers with Love Between Fairy and Devil, Dylan’s next four dramas did not fare as well – his romance drama with Bai Lu (白鹿), Only for Love <以愛為營> scored only 4.4 on Douban and received harsh criticism from Chinese state media. The heat is on as media observers anticipate the actor’s performances in Guardians of the Dafeng <大奉打更人> where he co-stars with New Life Begins’ <卿卿日常> Tian Xiwei (田曦薇), and Light to the Night where he stars alongside Pan Yueming, as a litmus test to see if he is worthy of remaining on the competitive A-list.
Light to the Night tells of a 21-year story across three generations starting from the mysterious disappearance of Father Xu and his daughter near the community lift lobby back in 1997. Joining hands to relook the case, investigative officer He Yuanhang (Pan Yueming) and his disciple You Fangxun (Dylan Wang) are shrouded in the mysteries of the unsolved case, navigating suspicions and perplexities, before the truth is finally unveiled.
Characteristic of the recent industry formula of pairing a middle-aged veteran with a popular idol, Light to the Night released a short segment to catch viewer attention after the drama wrapped. Despite the intense criminal theme, interactions between master and disciple in the short 2-minute video conveyed lighthearted humor – Dylan’s Hollywood police officer character poked fun at his master, while the young actor showed himself to be a surprisingly good fit for the role.
Incidentally, it was rumored that Dylan shared a closeness with the film’s producer Chen Nu Xi (陳女希) which created speculations that he was able to snag the role through their relationship, though co-star Pan Yueming was also known to the chummy with the same female producer.
However, showbiz insiders who spoke in Dylan’s defense said that while the actor would attend industry meet-ups and socializing where work was discussed, he would politely turn down pure meet-ups with wealthy females through his agency.

I think Dylan will do well here…
…I just don’t wanna hear his real voice…
You really had me laughing in your comments… I wonder if he will use his own voice… If so, I hope he had proper voice training.
