Dante Lam, Eddie Peng Push New Boundaries in “The Rescue”
Dante Lam‘s (林超賢) newest action blockbuster The Rescue <緊急救援> will arrive in theaters on Lunar New Year Day, January 25, 2020. With the movie focusing on sea rescue operations and requiring many difficult-to-film scenes, Dante turned towards one of his favorite actors to work with, Eddie Peng (彭于晏), who is known for his physical stamina. The duo challenged themselves and stepped out of their comfort zones for this movie.
When Eddie prepares for a Dante Lam movie, he always tries his best as the director is known for his high expectations and physically-demanding scenes. In their first movie together Unbeatable <激戰>, Eddie took Thai boxing lessons for three months. In To the Fore <破風>, Eddie biked over 110,000 kilometers (or 68,350 miles) during the training and filming of the movie. In Operation Mekong <湄公河行動>, Eddie filmed in the dense forests of Malaysia and Thailand while carrying real guns.
Admitting that The Rescue was very difficult to film because of its underwater scenes, Eddie said, “In order to fulfill this movie’s request, you really need a lot of courage because of its difficulty. But there are great protection and safety precautions taken.”
With their four collaborations, the pair has built incredible chemistry. Dante shares, “Eddie’s work attitude is very similar to mine, which is what builds our chemistry. He loves challenges and he doesn’t want to just be known for his good looks and body. He has high standards, and actors should learn from him.”
