Edwin Siu is Unafraid of Ruining Image Due to “Master of Destiny”
In the current on-air Master of Destiny <風雲天地>, Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) portrays an imprudent and spoiled son who constantly brings trouble to his family. The 38-year-old actor received praise for his talent in portraying comedic characters. Both Edwin’s girlfriend Priscilla Wong (黃翠如) and her mother have also been supporting the series. Mrs. Wong even remarked that Edwin’s acting is so realistic he seemed to possess such traits in real life as well.
Edwin was not unhappy about Priscilla’s mother’s remark. Instead, he took it as a form of praise. He expressed, “I actually felt really happy, because it means they enjoyed my performance.” When asked if he is scared the character will ruin his image, Edwin exclaimed, “He’s not that bad. In the end, he’ll turn into a good guy. I share many hilarious scenes with Natalie Meng (孟瑤), and I heard that even Wong Jing (王晶) said I have talent in comedy. I’ve watched his comedy films since I was a kid, and I’m thankful that he gave me this opportunity.”
Edwin added he did not feel awkward at all while collaborating with Natalie, since their intimate scenes were not too intense. He revealed that they experienced outtakes when Natalie spoke her lines in Cantonese. Edwin explained, “It was seriously very funny! When Liza Wang (汪明荃) was around, she would be sure to correct her pronunciation. It’s good that I don’t have a habit of using lazy tones to begin with!”
While filming for the series, Edwin said that Liza was their role model. She had certain expectations for each scene, and emphasized communication among the cast. “I was so happy to be able to learn so many things from Liza and all the other amazing actors!” he exclaimed.
Master of Destiny has not been receiving satisfying ratings over the past few weeks. This was also partly due to the broadcast of Come Home Love 2 <愛.回家II>, which stars Priscilla. Edwin expressed, “I’m really happy for her though, because I’ve heard the ratings were quite high and even broke records one night. I told her to add oil and learn from Louis Cheung (張繼聰).”
Edwin revealed that the upcoming episodes of Master of Destiny will pick up its pace and grow in intensity. At the moment, he is busy studying the script for Brother’s Keeper 2 <巨輪II>. “I really like my character in that series, and his personality is going to be very different from the first installment. I am looking forward to filming it!”
