Elena Kong Finds the Joys of Singlehood After Divorce
Hosted by Maria Luisa Leitao (黎芷珊), the Twinkle Twinkle Single Star <單對單> variety show invites currently single celebrities to talk about their views on love and their singlehood. The latest episode features Elena Kong (江美儀), who finally opens up about the real reason behind her divorce.
Elena was married to Ng Kwan Cheung (吴君祥), the younger brother of Sandra Ng (吳君如) for 11 years before calling it quits in 2018.
Attributing their divorce to a difference in life pace, Elena said, “He faced a lot of pressure too. Because he is the son, brother, and significant other of someone known in the public eye, he never had a clear personal identity.”
Furthermore, Elena admitted that her line of work, which required her to constantly be away from home and could not accompany Ng Kwan Cheung at social events. This eventually caused a rift in their communication, as Ng Kwan Cheung often had to deal with rumors and hearsay.
Their lifestyle differences slowly chipped away at their relationship. While Ng Kwan Cheung is someone who loves crowds, liveliness, and friends, Elena instead prefers spending quality time together. “He contacted my friends and tried throwing me a surprise party, but that is not what I wanted. I just wanted a candlelight dinner for the two of us. It was too much for me!”
When their marriage began falling apart, Elena felt a lot of stress as she had suffered from mood disorder for more than a decade. She shared, “He did not do anything special to try to salvage the relationship. Or perhaps my expectations were too high and hoped he would do things a certain way.”
Despite the end of a lengthy marriage, Elena has no regrets and is thankful to have experienced the love she once shared with Ng Kwan Cheung. Embracing singlehood now, Elena finds she can be happy by herself and enjoys her freedom. She also enjoys the companionship of her two dogs and focuses her energy on taking care of them.
