Eliza Sam’s Cheerful Outlook in Life
Eliza Sam‘s (岑麗香) cheerfulness is infectious. Lighting up the screens with her charisma, Eliza has been a popular favorite among TVB drama viewers in the last five years. The 30-year-old Canadian-born actress admitted that she initially had a difficult adjustment to the hectic lifestyle in Hong Kong, but found ways to motivate herself with her own humor and cheerful outlook. Finding a suitable boyfriend recently has also allowed Eliza to feel even happier.
“My secret to happiness is to keep smiling. When I am exhausted from work, I will say some silly and stupid things to make myself laugh. Ha ha! Actually, I’m a very emotional person, but my mom taught me to face life with cheerfulness since I was a little girl. When I was unhappy, she will guide me in a positive way. So I prefer to laugh rather than cry!”
Living in Hong Kong for the last five years, Eliza Sam (岑麗香) is starting to adapt to the local lifestyle. Although Eliza grew up in Canada where a balanced work and personal life was valued, she embraced the Hong Kong ideals of hard work and devoted herself to her career.
Winning Miss Chinese International 2010, Eliza decided to put behind her life in Canada for a fresh start in Hong Kong entertainment. Eliza said, “I entered the entertainment industry rather late. I gave up a lot to come to Hong Kong, including my established direction of my life, work, and family. To me, it was a very big risk. So when I came to Hong Kong, I whole-heartedly spent all my time focusing on work. At that time, everyone asked if I was dating, but I always said no. Maybe everyone thought I was lying, but I really was a workaholic at the time!”
Needs Love to Balance Life
Even a “happy machine” such as Eliza felt that she was wearing down after working nonstop for three to four years without better balance in her personal life. “Seeing me like this, my friends kept urging me to try dating. At this point, I have a potential suitor and we are at the stage of getting to know each other.”
When asked what she looks for in a boyfriend, Eliza admitted that she used to value looks the most in the past. “It’s undeniable that when we look at someone, we look at their outward appearance first, so it’s natural to first be attracted to appearances. But after growing up, I realized that only having an appearance is not enough. Besides, looks will deteriorate over time, so it is meaningless.”
Sharing the same Christian faith is also ideal. She further added, “I hope that my other half is someone kind-hearted and loves his family. Most importantly, we should grow, laugh, and cry together, like best friends who can talk about anything. I am envious of Wong Cho Lam (王祖藍) and Leanne Li’s (李亞男) love. They are very sweet and have overcome many difficulties for one another. After many years, they can finally be together. This kind of love story is rare in today’s society.”
In addition to kindness, Eliza truthfully admitted that money plays a part in the happiness of a relationship, “Although I don’t prioritize money when looking for a partner, I do have my own standard of living. I like to buy pretty things and I know what kind of life is most suitable for myself. So I am working hard to save money and build a strong foundation first! This type of ideal may seem materialistic, but people have to face reality. Because I often hear people arguing about money, I don’t want to be like that! I am someone who likes to depend on herself.
“Even if I get married and have children in the future, I still want to work or do volunteer work. Even if I am no longer an actress, I will still continue to work and never stop learning or growing.”

Eliza looks so refreshing in the above pic! As per usual, still looks like she’s in her early 20’s.
Loved how honest and straightforward she was in this article. I’m glad she didn’t give the usual ‘money isn’t important’, but acknowledged that it doesn’t come first in a relationship.

Typical CBC responses.
Just love her…fresh image. Oh so sweet too!
@janet72
I wouldn’t call her sweet if you actually knew her. 🙂
@anon
Tell us more since you seem to know her well.
@knguyen
She’s a nice and popular girl. Hangs out with the “in” crowd, but I wouldn’t go as far as the media calling her sweet and attempting to portray her as virgin mary (Christian, pure and don’t mess around). I didn’t even know she’s Christian until the media reported it, and I’ve known her for well over a decade. LOL
If that’s the public image that she wants others to believe. I’m fine with it. But those who know her in person, will know she’s not as sweet and pure as she or the media is attempting to portray her.
She’s just an ordinary girl.
Maybe her looks are considered unique by standards in HK/China. But in Vancouver, she’s a dime a dozen. Many Asian girls look like her here.
@anon
Good to know!!! Did her parents really come from Vietnam? Maybe she decided that being a Christian is more suitable for her, but I don’t believe in “don’t mess around,” before marriage. I mean, it’s not allowed in any religion, not only Christians, but who actually follows that belief nowadays hahaha lol. Gotta agree, she’s not scandalous so far!
@anon…maybe she is not as sweet as what we would have thought. but she does look fresh and so far scandal free.
