Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding’s “Last Christmas”
Last Christmas <去年聖誕節>, starring Emilia Clarke (艾蜜莉亞克拉克), Henry Golding (亨利高汀), and Michelle Yeoh (楊紫瓊), opened in North America on November 8 and is slated to hit theaters in Asia on December 6. The movie, set in London, tells the story of Kate, played by Emilia, muddling through the days while employed as an elf in a year-round Christmas shop run by a woman, portrayed by Michelle. Followed by bad luck, Kate’s life turns around when she meets the benevolent Tom, played by Henry. He helps her overcome the obstacles and difficulties in her life, but everything seems too good to be true.
In Last Christmas, Emilia’s character wants to be a singer, so director Paul Figg (保羅費格) said Emilia’s great voice was a big bonus. “Her singing is really beautiful and captivating, but she deliberately sings slightly worse because the movie is not about Kate becoming a pop star, but about her finding what truly makes her happy,” he explained.
Paul added he couldn’t think of anyone else to play the heroine other than Emilia. “She is very bright-eyed and I am amazed by Emilia’s performance every day on set. She is an excellent theater actress and comedian actress, who looks super beautiful when standing in the front of the camera,” he praised.
The cast and crew deliberately filmed in London during the last Christmas season to use London’s real Christmas lights. “The city was beautiful, but we added more shiny Christmas lights at each location to make it even more magical,” Emilia expressed.
Henry recalls filming in Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus standing on the side of a car. “London is full of magic, happiness, and excitement during Christmas,” he shared.
The director said the movie is like a love letter to the city. “I have been frequently coming to London since many years ago, and I love this city very much,” Paul expressed. “The city has a certain quality that makes me very happy. I want to present my favorite London attractions in this movie, but I also hope this film can show the multiculturalism of the city.”
He continued, “I dare to say if you watch this movie, you will definitely want to visit London.”
