Eric Tsang Helps Resolve TVB’s Big Four Music Contract Dispute

Yesterday, Oriental Daily revealed that a turning point was reached in the former deadlock dispute between TVB and the Hong Kong Recording Industry Alliance, dubbed as the Big Four Recording Companies, which included EMI Group, Sony Music, Universal Music, and Warner Music Group. Since TVB’s majority stakeholder, Charles Chan (陳國強), was caught in the a stalemate with the Big Four Recording Companies for a period of time, he asked good friend, Eric Tsang (曾志偉), to intervene on TVB’s behalf. Due to Eric’s good relations with Universal Music’s executive management, there was a turnaround in the deadlock, bringing the contract negotiations back to the table.

As a result of Eric’s intervention, TVB and the Big Four Recording Companies have reached an agreement regarding the royalty distribution. An outstanding issue in the contract negotiations was whether singers partnering with TVB will be allowed to appear on other rival television stations. The reporter contacted Eric Tsang, who was on an airplane at the time and could not respond to the media’s inquiries.

TVB Deputy Director of External Affairs, Tsang Sing Ming (曾醒明), indicated that there was a turning point in the dispute between TVB and the Big Four Recording Companies. Both parties were sincere in wishing to resolve the contract dispute and meet for further negotiations. The two most critical points in the negotiations involved the amount of the royalties and the terms of the contracted singers.

Mr. Tsang was uncertain whether the contract dispute with the Big Four Recording Companies will be resolved prior the TVB Anniversary. Since the agenda for the TVB Anniversary has already been planned, it will be difficult to incorporate the singers into the TVB Anniversary program.

  1. Ask Eric to run TVB please. He seems to be heading somewhere!

    1. Yea even though people are always saying how he’s always making inappropriate comments/saying the wrong things, he actually knows what he’s doing. Like when it comes to newer generation’s scandals and stuff he actually gives good advice. TVB needs to let him work some magic. Actually TVB would be a lot better off without Virginia Lok.

      1. I still find Eric Tsang to possess a very lewd look, especially when he is surrounded by bikini clad women.

      2. Lewd is ok unless he acts on that lewdness. He is a savvy “politician”.

      3. Even a real pervert man is okay as long as he “perverts” only the people who let him.

    2. LOL, do we really want Eric Tsang to run TVB? He is a very cheeky and naughty womaniser. 🙂

      1. If Eric Tsang runs TVB there will be more Koni Lui lookalike I mean big boobs and deep V clothes coming in 😀

      2. I can’t stand Eric Tsang, too lewd and his jokes though sometimes funny, most times were crude.

  2. There have been several complaints by femal artistes regarding his ‘lewdness’ previousness haven’t there?

    1. Dai Si Jie,
“There have been several complaints by femal artistes regarding his ‘lewdness’ previousness haven’t there?”

I don’t remember hearing any actresses complain of Eric Tsang openly. However, I remember watching a special swimwear edition of “Super Trio” (the summer ones where the artists all play volleyball in a pool). A female artist’s bikini slipped and she exposed herself and Eric’s eyes nearly popped out of his skin. The female artist is not anyone famous, so I don’t remember her name.

Eric’s lewdness is very obvious, which I find a little unnerving. He is a funny MC, but the lewdness is a little bothersome. Can’t there be clean humor?

      1. A female artist’s bikini slipped and she exposed herself and Eric’s eyes nearly popped out of his skin

Hahaha..this cracked me up. Yeah he’s quite obvious. Ah, and I have noticed that he shows special liking for the “sexy” ladies – notably Koni Lui and Samantha Ko 😀

      2. He’s lewd, but harmless lewd. Moreover even if he was really real lewd, who would complain? He is very powerful in HK entertainment.

      3. Jayne,

I remember the summer edition where the girls were wrestling each other off the mat into the pool while wearing tiny tank tops over their bikini. It’s obvious this is geared toward the male audience and they’re just hoping for some accidental exposure. So stupid.

But in a way, the lewdness is part of the gimmick. Besides Eric, the sidekicks chin ka lok and king Kong also play the typical “ham sup lo” always trying to hit on the pretty girls.

      4. Hi Jayne

I guess there will be some who find his clear demonstration/ display of appreciation for the female sex appeal/ body unnerving but there will be more open-minded girls like Koni who doesn’t mind flirting with him, and in fact, laps it up for political reasons, e.g. more media exposure.

      5. The more this big boobies girls flirt with him the more he likes it

    2. I hear a lot of American girls saying so “everyone is pervert, including girls” as long as in a controlable way = fine.

  3. Eric Tsang has always been fully spirited in reviving HK’s “barely-breathing” entertainment industry. I don’t mean just TXB, but the whole entertainment industry as a whole.

    1. aside his popular ‘lewd’ action, I strongly believe he does has a lot of connections, and the people within the industry respect him

      1. Vivien,
“I heard he got attacked by triad once and broke his leg”

It is rumored that Eric poked fun at Joey Yung, thus incurred the wrath of Albert Yeung. To-date, Joey and Eric do not get along.

      2. @Jayne

why am I not surprised he got into trouble. Sometimes his joke can be too acid rofl

      3. I don’t see his so called lewdness as a problem. His comments and actions are nowhere comparable to late night shows or even some sitcoms in the US. Where’s the justice when a man can’t even poke fun at someone without getting beat up?
