The 29-year-old, who has starred in dramas such as Ski Into Love <噓,國王在冬眠> and who saw her popularity spike last year with Love Game in Eastern Fantasy <永夜星河>, had wrapped up parts of the drama’s filming in Hainan.

She had flown in to Bangkok on Sunday, March 23 for a week of scheduled filming, when the 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit. The powerful quake struck central Myanmar and neighboring Thailand, leaving tremors and shaking felt in regions as far as Yunnan, Kunming and Lijiang.

Bangkok Declared Disaster Zone

With a state of emergency declared in Bangkok, Esther’s work studio quickly updated on its official Weibo page to inform that the actress was safe and well. “Thank you for your concern, please do not worry as Esther is safe at the moment. We’d also like to remind everyone to take caution against the aftershocks.” While it was unclear if filming progress for Speed and Love, which stars actor He Yu (何与) will be affected, fans were relieved to allay their worries first and foremost over Esther’s safety.
