Fala Chen Doesn’t Dare To Dream Of Becoming TV Queen

TVB Artiste Fala Chen’s (陳法拉) role as Madam Jo in drama series, Lives of Omission《潛行狙擊》proved to be immensely popular with the audience. Thus the concern over her character’s ultimate fate in the finale. Fala who had seen a massive increase in her popularity due to “Lives” was even rumored to be the fixed choice amongst the internal management staff for this year’s TV Queen award.

Fala Chen and singer Pakho Chau (周柏豪) attended NBA Madness 2011 at the apm shopping mall yesterday night. When Stephen Chan’s (陳志雲) recent acquittal was mentioned, Fala Chen expressed that though she seldom contacts Stephen Chan, she felt happy for him.

As for rumors that new TVB boss, “Shell King” Charles Chan (陳國強), had appointed her to receive the TV Queen award, Fala modestly replied, “I do not believe reports from those tabloids magazines. I am already happy to be nominated. Furthermore, it still remains to be seen as other dramas have not been broadcasted yet!” (Reporter: Who do you think highly of?) “Myolie Wu (胡杏兒), Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) and Kate Tsui (徐子珊) are all very good, my confidence is 50-50 lahs!”

When told that she had received high praises from the boss and could thus have a huge chance of winning the award, Fala smiled even more widely and said, “It’s not awarded according to who says what but rather it depends on the votes received from the audience and the senior management staff!”

Asked about the finale of “Lives of Omission”, Fala Chen kept everyone in suspense by saying, “I shot two different endings. However the producer could edit and come up with many endings. Sometimes, even us the actors and actresses are not kept in the loop hence those endings written in the magazines may not be true.”

  1. I don;t think she will win this year or the next, Too many lining up, not her turn yet. Maybe most fave character?

      1. =]], Funn, you’ve just said that show the statics mean not rigged :P.

      2. For the award yes because part vote, part TVB. Vote maybe no rig but TVB, I would say definitely.

      3. But if they show the statics showed that Kate wins, do you think it’s rigged?

      4. @Funn Lim:

I meant in reply to your comment below,

“Oh Ah K, you are very busy these days!!”

In case you are wondering which comment I’m referring to! 😀

      5. I don’t think the world will come to an end if Kate won, it is just more proof that the TVB awards are rigged and that they don’t really mean much anymore. I think the TVB awards have lost meaning for many years already….

      6. let her win for her role in W&W or prostitute role in relic haha

want to see how the artist in tvb are going to react 🙂

      7. “let her win for her role in W&W or prostitute role in relic haha
want to see how the artist in tvb are going to react

        They will politely clap.

      8. I think the TVB awards have lost meaning for many years already….

Dun need to think, it’s a fact.

want to see how the artist in tvb are going to react

Never seen them clap clap and badmouth when the cameras turn off?

  2. It’s definitely not Fala time this year, maybe Myolie or Tavia. Myo and TY are the real two hot picks for this year’s best actress.

      1. but Fox, we never know. With Stephen’s return, maybe a blackhorse will pops up and steal the winner? Stephen’s party are Tavia and Fala only…if Tavia didn’t win..maybe Fala? anything can happen in TVB. Really unpredictedable.

      2. Both jumped out of his ships. TY sent a statement against SC in the court. Dun forget that.

Fala might have a bigger chances because Uncle Four (new boss of TVB) support her :P. Fala might win something, maybe the Best performance or watever award but as Mdm Jo is criticized a lot, her chance to win Fave Actress (it’s more correct than Best Actress) and Fave Character. There are a lot of criticism on her acting in newspaper.

      3. Don’t quite understand the hype about Madam Jo. Perhaps the praises may be coming mostly from Fala fans? Fala’s portrayal of the character is very limited although it has potential to have amazing chemistry with Laughing Gor, Fala wasn’t the best actress to play this role. If given to someone more capable, the fireworks may have been more apparent. If winning awards is based on the TVB politics then Fala may have a chance if favored by Stephen, but I’m very iffy about the Favorite Character award for her.

I didn’t see Linda’s performance in its entirety in YSSS, but from the clips I’ve seen, it’s more impressive than Fala’s Madam. If the Fav Character award to to be given to someone, I choose Linda over Fala although I still like Myolie’s Wong Sze Fu the most, but the hype for her character isn’t as high as it’s for Miss Koo.

      4. @Chriselle Myolie’s the hottest pick for TVB Queen this year but it’s only after Stephen Chan come back that got this rumour of Fala favoured by the boss of TVB.

Based on their performances this year Myolie still has the highest mark. Linda is better to win Fav Character while Fala can wait next year when her acting improved. Tavia is still sub par and still need more charisma as leading actress.

      5. I quite like Madam Jo’s character; in particular her casual scenes. She can be cute. Fala is ok, not impressive but not bad..but I also keep imagining what would happen if Yoyo is casted as Madam Jo instead.

      6. I’ve watched Miss Koo’s cut out scenes, and I like Linda in this role; in particular the cool part at the beginning. Mr Lau should’ve let the script and Linda gradually turning from cool to sweet and not just suddenly so-sweet to achieve better effects.

  3. I also think it is not Fala’s turn yet. I like both Myolie and Tavia but I think Tavia should get her recognition but it seems like Myolie is a hot pick this year. Either one wins, I am happy.

      1. I like both of them very much and I think they both should get it, But I don’t know why I have this perception that Tavia is more like Myolie’s senpai in term of acting.

      2. I agree. I think both girls deserve it not just tavia. Myolie has been around the same time as tavia. and they both worked really hard. each girls has her own forte and weaknesses but they still deserve to win.

      3. however i think Tavia is more well liked by the people than Myolie. So Tavia might win this year.

      4. Senpai? Haha, Japanese.

I like Myolie’s acting more than TY’s in the recent years, exactly from 2008. Maybe TY’s expressions are kinda lacked in my opinion.

This year, Myolie provided a better performance.

  4. Ah K,
The article looks great! Good job!

Hmm…I think the press may just be adding more “excitement” regarding the upcoming TVB Anniversary Awards.

Btw, I fixed the safe house and Lau Kar Leung issues in the earlier articles.

Heading to bed now! Thanks everyone for your support, especially Ah K, Funn, Kidd, Fox, HeTieShou, and Veejay and speaking up for the site amidst recent controversies. 🙂

    1. Jayne, I am Wong Hei to your SC! Minus all those romance stuff and meeting parents.

      1. Jayne, bring me home!

Ha ha!!! When you’re young, yes it is no big deal but sorta weird when you’re an adult. Maybe we adult minds think too much in a simple polite gesture such as introducing one’s friends to family. Why be so secretive unless it is a secret romance!

      2. Funn,
“Jayne, I am Wong Hei to your SC! Minus all those romance stuff and meeting parents”

SC is too controversial lah. I don’t wish to be embroiled in ligitation and no need for you to give me a pomelo leaves’ bath.

      3. Funn,
“Jayne, no pamelo? Sure? Papaya then, or pineapple? Sure?”

Huh? So many exotic flavors? I prefer my all-natural, olive oil-based soap.

    2. And I thank you for giving us such a enjoayble website and platform. 🙂

      1. Kidd,
“And I thank you for giving us such a enjoayble website and platform.”

The joy is mutual. I am glad to find good online friends such are yourself. 🙂

    3. @Jayne:

Lol! Thank you thank you *bows* but it’s you, my “shifu”, who taught me well lahs! Heh heh! But I’m just glad I finally managed to post it up successfully lahs, yesterday was quite stressful and panicky for me cause I major screwed up lol!

“Btw, I fixed the safe house and Lau Kar Leung issues in the earlier articles.”

Ah thank you! I totally forgot about it! Lol, I’m too blur lahs!

And welcome, we also hope to see the peace being restored in the site again mahs! Hope you won’t feel disheartened over those issues, there will be a naysayer in everything we do lahs, it’s just a matter of persevering and not letting them get to you 🙂

      1. Ah K,
“And welcome, we also hope to see the peace being restored in the site again mahs! Hope you won’t feel disheartened over those issues, there will be a naysayer in everything we do lahs, it’s just a matter of persevering and not letting them get to you”

No, not disheartened. However, would rather spend time on the creative and editorial aspects of the site management.

Thanks as always! LOL you sense of justice is very strong. 🙂

    4. Funn,
“Ha ha!!! When you’re young, yes it is no big deal but sorta weird when you’re an adult. Maybe we adult minds think too much in a simple polite gesture such as introducing one’s friends to family”

It’s natural for parents to know our good friends. My mother often asks how my good friends are doing, as I would ask about the good friends that are important to her. Even my dad inquires once in awhile.

Friends have slept over at my house and I have done the same. In fact, I find it is quite enjoyable to chat with my friends’ parents if they are open-minded and can share their wisdom gained through age. Actually, I tend to get along better with people older than me.

  5. I hope its Fala, as Madam Jo character is memorable.. It also could be Linda Chung as Miss Koo in Yes Sir, No Sir was a stand out and now a spinoff series in the pipeline.

Myolie Wu is dark horse , she was good in Ghetto Justice but her character wasn’t as memorable. Tavia Yeung is also a dark horse just that her 3 roles this year were not that much of a stretch

  6. The character that Fala plays is very likeable, but her acting in this role isn’t very good, but that’s just my opinion. I didn’t realize that the general public would think that her acting is really at its best for her to get Best Actress this year?

    1. Yes Madam Jo is a likeable and good character, but Fala is not convincing as the madam and I still see her as the cute Fala. She’s only good at the cute and sweet parts. People must be confused between her likeable character and her acting. She’s far from Best actress material.

Another advantage of Fala is that she’s a classic pretty girl. Boys will love her.

  7. I don’t know if some of you agree that these days the quality of artists are nothing compare to the older artists like Esther Kwan, Kenix Kwok etc. They’re so natural in their acting. You can’t tell they were acting, it was so real. I know some of you might say that it takes time to make one mature in his/her acting skills. But, I must say that some people are just born a natural actor and some no matter how hard they tried they just can’t excel. Remember this actress Kathy Chow, I hate to see her acting because she’s not natural at all, most times very stiff.

    1. “Remember this actress Kathy Chow, I hate to see her acting because she’s not natural at all, most times very stiff.”

Yes, I know for many of the artists back then, acting came more naturally for them. However, I think Kathy Chow was one of the few whose acting matured over time. I remember seeing her in her early days (1st or 2nd series) in an ancient drama (Take Care Your Highness, if I remember correctly? Anyway, it was with Andy Lau and Liu Kai Chi) and her acting was cringeworthy. But comparing it to her later performances and the first one that comes to mind is Flaming Brothers, she isn’t too bad. It may be the character be less annoying too, but for the most part, it isn’t as annoying anymore. 🙂

    2. Sorry but I belongs to the minority this time. I dun think Esther and Kenix’s acting is too good. They also need to improve through times.

Kenix is a special case to me. When I first saw her, I dun like her. I think her acting is the same in every scenes and her skinny look scared me. But when I found her old series, DIF 1, she was very beautiful and her acting is more natural.

      1. Also, if you notice, Fala is following the skinny trend now.. Fala looks hella skinny in real and onscreen lately.

      2. But not as skinny as Kenix. You must watch the China series of Kenix and Chilam. She is super skinny there. Like a skeleton.

TY is following Kenix. Fala looks a bit healthier.

      3. @Fox,

yeah, Tavia is also very skinny now.. Yoyo Chen also looks skinny but in a healthy way. Yoyo’s arm kinda like a stick imo.

      4. I saw Kenix in person once. She wasn’t skinny. She was aneroxic. She is skinny now.

        Fala is slim.

    3. Sorry to join in the middle of you gals’ convo. Speaking about natural acting, I think Loh Ka Leung is the most convincing villain and actor for most time.

      1. I think Tony Leung is better than Gallen in any aspect of acting :P.

      2. I prefer Gallen. I find Tony Leung as in Leung Choi Wai can be quite insufferable sometimes, he is great but he is also darn tortured. I do like him in comedies though.

      3. Tony Leung Chiu Wai I mentioned, not Tony Leung Ka Fai.

Many ppl like Gallen but I’m in the minority. I like him in villain role but fail to buy him as a good or lovesick guy. Of course, he dun look as tough as Ruco.

      4. Funn, I like Tony Leung in both drama and comedy. He can be cute in comedy and melancholic in drama. I love this aspect in any actor and Tony has it, excellently 🙂

      5. Gallen Law all the way!! Best actor ever, he can do both Evil and Good just as convincingly! plus he was hot back in the day =P

      6. My vote to Tony Leung CW!! Best HK actor ever! 😀 His eyes and emotional scenes are breath-taking! 😛

      7. Tony Leung is so awesome in Chinese Odyseyy 2002. He definitely one of the best actor of our time.

Gallen Lo also awesome, loved TVB stereotyped him in those rich family drama.

  8. I like Tony Leung in a different way to Gallen Law. Tony is very professional on the big screen and doing TV dramas tend to require a different kind of acting than on the big screen. Have never seen Gallen in films so can’t judge him on that. However, I have always liked him doing series and in fact really miss him now that he does more work in China.

Regarding this skinny thing with Kenix, Fala etc.. Frankly I think they are all pretty much the same. Maybe they think that being so thin is beautiful or maybe they would like to put a little bit of weight on but can’t. I personally think they should all put a bit of weight on as being bony isn’t nice at all. Thats my view of course. Lots of models in the UK love being skinny as they think it means beautiful.

      1. I have watched Tony on many TVB series and liked most of them. I loved one of his earlier ones “Police Cadet” and thought he was just perfect for the role. Can’t think of anyone who could do that part better.

      2. I also watch many of Tony’s TVB series and LOVE his acting a lot. I really miss him in TVB series or any series for that matter but I know that he will never act in a series again. I have never really liked any Chinese movies and feel that all of his movies can’t match up with his series, which is why his series are now rare classics that I will always treasure.

    1. Tony is pf course no comparison when it comes to with say Gallen. He is after Movie king, won acclaims in other countries, palm d’ord or whatever. If he can speak better english he might be the first to win oscar and not Chow Yun Fatt. But I still find him suffering.

      1. actually his english is not bad alot better than per say jet li, jackie, ah fat gor etc

      2. Tony Leung? His ENglish is way better. She speaks good grammar, because he knows English. His only problem which isn;t a problem is the heavy HK accent. Don’t mistake accents as bad English. Listen to the grammar,. the ones you quoted, no grammar

      3. Tony Leung is like Jay Chou in this stand. He would like to work in a Hollywood movie for experience, but, he wouldn’t want to be based there. Also, he wouldn’t just accept any script. Have to be good. Asian stereotype role won’t do. I remember there was news of a role custom-made for him or something. It’s a detective movie. I guess the movie didn’t come to fruition.

Anyway, it’s ok for Asian actor to have accent in Hollywood production. Masi Oka has to fake an accent to play Hiro.

      4. yeah i doubt tony leung would play a sterotyped chinese in the 19th century with a ponytail.

he is too good for that and hollywood is making many s**** movies as well.

      5. I think Tony Leung’s English is really good and I was so impressed with it. His accent is not bad either. I have not heard any HK artist that is not based overseas speak English as well as Tony does.

      6. I think Tony did not want to go to Hollywood since he did not want to be stuck in those stereotypical roles that Hollywood often gives to asian celebs. It is better that he stays in the asian market. Plus, he did win other international awards so I don’t feel that he needs to go to Hollywood to gain more fame or anything.

      7. well i suppose tony could play a chinese in the ching dynasty sold as a slave to america to make the railroads.

somehow because of his determination he became one of the titans of wall street LOL

wish he could star in more movies and im not excited about his next movie “grandmaster” since the topic have already been exploited by donnie.

      8. @ HTS

” I have not heard any HK artist that is not based overseas speak English as well as Tony does.”

Sammul speaks English well and he’s not based overseas. He gave the credit all to his English teacher (I forgot in primary or secondary school).

  9. I’m voting for Linda! Her role as Miss Koo really got me. Tavia and Myolie are both great for TV queen, but there wasn’t any series release this year that makes me think they both deserved it.

  10. Linda’s new series only has 25 pts for the first week. Seem that she’ll have to lean on Miss Koo for the race.

      1. Linda, Fala and Kate aren’t ready to lead their own series yet. Although Fala is the female lead in LOO, she gives me a supporting actress and vase vibe and not a heroine vibe. Similarly Linda also has never lead her own series yet.

      2. if linda is not then neither is myolie. her acting is so overrated.

kate shouldn’t even be mentioned its a disgrace to the other actresses.

      3. Neither do TY. So this year we don’t have a winner. End of the story.

      4. ‘A Journey Called Life’ can be considered a Linda led series. Yes, there are 2 strong male cast in the series, but, Linda’s role is also very central to the series.

Sweetness of Salt is a Tavia led series. The original title of the series is ‘Sing Suet Yim Jaan’ (勝雪鹽棧) and Sing Suet is Tavia’s character name. Yes, you can say title is talking about the warehouse and not the person. But, to have a character’s name to be the same as the subject in the title shows her importance.

      5. As you said AJCL still has two experienced actors.

SITS isn’t successful. The storyline is good because it’s by Lee Tim Sing but Tavia and Steven Ma are mediocre as the leads. Again she’s overshadowed by others. I remember the most about Raymond Wong who’s a second lead but is the best thing about the series.

      6. TY is lead in The Vigilante in the Mask and Building Block of Life. In The Vigilante in the Mask she is the only lead actress. The rating is 26.

      7. @ lol

“As you said AJCL still has two experienced actors.”

Doesn’t matter, she’s still a very central character.

If having a strong actor together in the series means not leading a series, then, how many actresses have lead a series on her own? Most series, the main lead is the lead actor unless it’s inner palace series or women themed series.

      8. “SITS isn’t successful.”

A contributing factor to SITS no success is the series already released overseas before it was released in HK. Some audience have already seen it.

      9. SITS isn’t a good series itself. Except the fact it’s Tim Sir’s productions (ok, not all Tim Sir’s productions are good, take the Demigod one as example), SITS has a poor and unconvincing storyline.

      10. @exoidus “if linda is not then neither is myolie. her acting is so overrated.”

Myolie’s not overrated. Her performance in GJ is applauded by netizens. She also did a great job in TRB. Linda has a good character but Myolie is the best actress out of the five Myolie, Linda, Tavia, Fala, Kate.

      11. SITS actually came out before Rosy Business. SITS did really well in overseas markets but when it was broadcasted in HK, it was after Rosy Business so that’s probably why it affected the ratings.

The Vigilante one.. that’s pretty old. I didn’t even watch that one. TOT had Tavia as the main lead above the males, it did well. If Tavia wasn’t capable, I’m sure they wouldn’t have put her to lead a series with no male lead (of equal or higher status) in the first place.

I think Myolie did really well in TRB. Her loveline with Chilam was really funny. Dunno if the ratings is due to Chilam (does all his series always get high ratings?) or Myolie or the storyline though……

      12. But the sunshine of TOT like ppl say, is Ruco’s Keith :P. I saw some TY fans in hyn5’s blog complained that TY’s screentime is like supporting. I haven’t watched so no comment.

SITS has a week storyline. Raymond Wong’s chac is the only one I can like in this one, and in fact, the reason why I don’t quit series before he died.

VITM is a quite nice series. I liked TY in this one. Her role is kinda like hers in King’s shadow. Deric is funny and Mandy Chiang has my vote in the end (ok, in the beginning, Mandy’s chac and acting is very bad).

      13. Tavia’s role in TOT is felt like supporting role. Her screen time was considerably less then Natale screen time.

  11. I totally agree with Exoidus. I have always thought Myolie Wu very over rated and as for Kate Tsui – well, I just can’t comment on that woman or I may say something that would upset people.

I have always been a fan of Linda Chung although I feel that she’s not a terribly strong leading lady. I think it would be difficult to say who should get the TVB queen award this year. However, I did like her in that ancient drama series with Steven Ma at the beginning of this year. Can’t remember the name of it but Fala was in it and played the vixen or something in the form of a human. In the end neither of them ended up with Steven. It was a gentle drama and not much fighting but I enjoyed it.

    1. the Ghostwriter was last year i think well not 100% sure and too lazy to check. yeah my favorite pairing is steven & linda loved them in “a journey called life” it was so good.

in the end we all know that award is rigged so its not a good measure of an artist true ability.

    2. You are talking about Ghostwriter and it’s last year, April. It’s the series which Fala is stolen the limelight of the main characters.

      1. Yes Fala was good in GW and steal the limelight from the main characters but mediocre in LOO when she’s the first female lead.

      2. Lol, I’ll use the famous excuse that used for BTROC for Fala: It’s her first time :P.

  12. Just checked the new news and Fala is in a new TVB series 東西宮略. In the series, she’ll act the famous ugly girl 鐘無艷.

Sharon Chan will be an evil beautiful girl. This role is offered to Kate and TY but they refused because they don’t want to act evil while Fala can act good girl. Sharon took the opportunity and have the first lead the very first time (happy for her).

    1. First lead? Should the first lead be the actress who played Chung Mou Yim? Unless the story is told from the POV of Ha Ying Chun, the first lead should be Fala.

      1. The news say Fala and Sharon will share the first leads. They will turn from friend to enemy. It’s a frienemy relationship.

    2. what will happen they discovered plastic surgery and removed mark on her face LOL

yeah happy for sharon as well it might be her chance to shine. stupid kate don’t want to play evil anymore. sorry girl you are only a little convincing as evil. goody characters played by you makes me sick LOL

      1. Kate and TY dun wanna take the role, the reason is Fala :), not that they dun wanna evil role. They are said to feel afraid that Fala will steal all the limelight as her character is strong.

      2. LOL, doesn’t make sense since tavia is a way better actress than fala. she should’ve taken to role and showed who’s the boss hehe

      3. Show who is the boss or being overshadowed like Miss Ho? Fact is she still feels afraid, lol.

      4. I think this time I can emphatize with Kate and Tavia. Fala’s ‘ugly’ character is very famous.

      5. I admire Sharon for taking the role. It will be a hard task because Fala’s character is the much better and more likeable one.

      6. TY currently busy filming 36 on call. That why she cant participate the series. Not because she reject the series. I never hear TV being invite join this series

      7. The invitation is sent long ago, not the recent. The filming time always can adjust to fit the artists. The artists always know which series they will participate next at least 4-5 months before it is really started, but someone like to play dumb and say “I don’t know”.

      8. @Fox , overshadowed like Miss Ho?

The role she was given was like … compared to Linda’s role. Boring and what so ever. The roles are so different. And of course Linda has to overshadow her given that role, if not ,what kind of actress is she ?

      9. @ Fybttrforever: Then why TY fans say it’s her good job to overshadow Charmaine in BTROC :P?

Miss Koo is a good character, can’t deny that. But Linda has the credit because she can act out this character.

      10. it was rather char. lame all goody character that made people sick. it defies all logic towards that one needs to be manipulative in order to survive in the palace.

      11. So it isn’t her good job but partly thank to the character.

Not only this role, but also in TRB :P. Not coincident, har?

      12. it’s a combination of everything. her acting is good but this was amplified by the fact that char. is average in every aspects.

      13. Maybe this is why she is afraid that Ha Ying Chun will be overshadowed and denied. Moreover, Fala is Chung Mou Yim, lol.

      14. Based on her performance so far, I don’t think Tavia too is ready for the award. She’s not up to the standard yet.

She must’ve been afraid to take a character that could possibly be overshadowed by Fala’s character because Tavia’s charisma is also weak.

      15. Charmaine’s role in BTROC is also quite outstanding. It’s different from other roles also OO

      16. ” The filming time always can adjust to fit the artists.”

This is untrue. Linda has to give up the role of Ting Ting because FH2 clashed with Moonlight Resonance. She really wanted to be in the series and thanked the producer for letting her film 6 episodes of it.

      17. “I admire Sharon for taking the role. It will be a hard task because Fala’s character is the much better and more likeable one.”

It will not be a hard task because Ha Ying Chun is a villain. If she outshine Fala, good for her. If she doesn’t, nothing to lost since hers is a villain character and supposed to be hated.

      18. @Kidd: Ok, the word “always” isn’t correct. Often is a better word choice.

      19. @Fox,

You said Kate and TY are afraid to take up the evil role because Fala was the good one and scared Fala will steal the limelight but why is Kate in LOO with Fala?

      20. I dun “said”, our beloved reporters “said”, girl.

And Ha Ying Chun is an evil role while Fala’s Chung Mou Yim is a likable girl. They are frenemy, first friend, then fight to have the king. Different to Paris and Mdm Jo’s relationship in LOO. Ha Ying Chun will end up with nothing, after doing many bad things to harm Chung Mou Yim.

      21. I know the story of this series since the first actress who casted as Chong Mo Yim was Dodo Cheng, watched that when i was young. You didn’t state in your post that it was Reporter who said that, I thought it was you who said that lol.

Btw, it still doesn’t make sense to me. Both Kate and Fala were in LOO but in different roles, maybe their roles wouldn’t clash with each other and each role has their own characteristic to show onscreen..but still the series has FAla in, therefore, if TY and Kate are scared of Fala’s presence in the latest series, Kate should be scare too in LOO.

Anyway, I think of other reason why TVB didn’t offer to Kate or TY and offered it to Sharon because maybe they wanted to promote Sharon and Ha Yin Chun has the foxy looks and Sharon has such vibe for such role?

      22. Veejay,
“I know the story of this series since the first actress who casted as Chong Mo Yim was Dodo Cheng”

Dodo was a good casting choice. If Chung Mo Yim were a film comedy, my casting choice would be Sandra Ng.

In the TVB world, who can play Chung Mo Yim? The character needs to be righteous, spontaneous, and possess a good sense of humor. Hmm….Jessica Hsuan anyone? She would make a good pair with Roger.

Among the younger actresses, my choice for Chung Mo Yim would be Linda Chung. Fala really suits the role of Ha Ying Chun more.

      23. You don’t understand the purpose of the article.

They don’t say that TY and Kate aren’t offered the role. They wanna imply that TY and Kate don’t want to be background for Fala and boost her up (because Fala’s role is likable and pitiful).

      24. Was Ha Ying Chun and Chung Mou Yim friends? I don;t think so. Chung Mou Yim was the ugly concubine and did everything for the Emperor but in the end he married Ha Ying Chun known for her great beauty. Isn’t there a saying, “Yau si Chung Mou Yin, Mou si jau Ha Ying chun”? meaning when there is problem, find Chung Mou Yim, when everything is ok, go to Ha Ying Chun?

      25. I agree w/ fox. Why would they want to play 2nd fiddle to fala’s CMY? LoO is a “man series” w/ the focus on laughing and Bichael. And Kate shouldn’t be threatened by fala b/c her Paris Ho Ho is more eye catching than madame Jo. As for tavia, she’s already done the evil concubine in BTROC- doing it again would be regression. I think they are trying to give Sharon the same chance as tavia back then.

      26. If Tavia is HYC, I will be first to protest. HYC has to be someone seductive, someone very beautiful. Can’t think of any in TVB BUT Kate can do that role for the seductive part. Linda can take it as a challenge.

      27. @josie: TY has just replay BTROC role in a China series. Can’t say that she dun wanna do it again.

      28. @Funn,

Like Fox implied none of these artists will take up the role as HYC since the main focus and original lead is CMY which HYC is considered 2nd lead even if the producer said HYC is first lead. If kate, ty or anyone else take up the HYC offer, that means they’re consider themselves less famous compare to Fala.

      29. Veejay, if that is true, then they’re stupid. HYC is an interesting series with chance to develop. Of course CMY is the lead. It is like making a series about Yeung Gwai Fei, everybody else is supporting. I don’t think so. I think they’re plates are full. And TY will be the worst casting decision.

      30. @Funn,

that’s what I thought too that CMY was and still an interesting story which HYC is also very important role, without Hyc around, CMY can’t be seen Pitiful and ugly lol.. Therefore, I said to Fox that TY and Kate shouldnt be scared the concentration will go to Fala alone, there are spaces for TY and kate to prove their vilainneous in their roles. But Fox said I dont understand hehe.

      31. “without Hyc around, CMY can’t be seen Pitiful and ugly lol.. ”

Actually the premise is simple. Does a man look at a woman he loves by what he sees or what he feels? Nothing to do with HYC around, CMY is ugly etc. CMY is ugly. But she did everything for the emperor, she really loved him and yet he just knew how to enjoy time with that pretty one who did not contribute to the empire. CMY did.

Again Sharon a miscast. She should be CMY.

      32. @Funn: Well, matter is they dun wanna lose faces to be second lead for Fala is wat the reporter wanna say.

      33. well its quite plausible that tavia turned down the role due to pride. why would she want to be 2nd lead to fala who is just a pretty face.

however she should’ve and teach fala what real acting is all about LOL

      34. exoidus, if she is in the same series, she should be CMY. Tavia will be the worst casting decision as HYC. And Fala can act in comedy situation, Tavia I am not sure yet. She can be cute but can she be funny?

      35. im happy with sharon and think she’s a better cast than tavia.

      36. @exoidus: At least Fala is pretty :P.

BTW, Fala overshadowed Linda. Linda overshadowed TY so TY might scare that Fala will overshadow her. Kidding only.

@Funn: exoidus will say yes, do you wanna bet with me?

      37. @exoidus,

Tavia will fit the CMY role since her face suits the goody role more than evil one. her role in Beyond wasn’t impressive so no more evil role plz for her. She doesn’t suit them.

Fala can act goody/evil/cunning and foxy role. so Fala can be HYC.

      38. @ Funn

“Was Ha Ying Chun and Chung Mou Yim friends? I don;t think so…

They could always change the story to make it so. TVB did that all the time. It will be like ‘Love is Beautiful’. Started friends, then, become enemy.

“Again Sharon a miscast. She should be CMY.”

I agree with you. Look wise Fala is more suitable to the very attractive HYC while Sharon look more tough and should be CMY.

      39. @Fox,

Interesting betting, but who gonna give TY a comedy role? R u going to folk out $$$ to cast her in a comedy series?

      40. Oh I guess that’s what TVB will do. And I will be damned if in the end CMY becomes pretty.

I feel if Sharon is CMY that would be better casting but sharon is not big enough to be the lead.

      41. LOL, why are we discussing this topic. the roles are set already and we cannot change the outcome.

      42. @Veejay: My bet is for exoidus’s answer, not the real face. I won’t give a penny to TY since I definitely love $$$ more than her many times.

@exoidus: For fun, of course. Even the costume fitting isn’t held, watever we are discussing can’t affect anything. So we can keep chatting.

      43. wonder if they will discover plastic surgury and somehow remove her birthmark so the emperor and she can live happily ever after haha…

tvb are good at that kind of nonsense

      44. Maybe Kate turn down the role because she didn’t want to play yet again another a sexy seducer.

I mean, she just came out of playing Paris. Maybe the other script she gets have more interesting and refreshing character.

      45. Last time there was a series where CMY became a beauty in the end. I dun rmb if it’s the one with Sammi Cheng or not.

      46. so human nature does not change i.e. the emperor will not love a “ugly” girl.

the birthmark on fala face is not that bad should’ve been twice as large LOL

      47. I think the king dun love CMY. He admires her talents and scared of her more than love.

But when the light is off, every faces are the same. Be aware in the morning only :P.

      48. LOL, won’t be a problem in my morning either just have to make sure she has a paparbag over her head or just a hello kitty mask haha…

so the king can be considered as a prostitute then 🙂

      49. “Maybe Kate turn down the role because she didn’t want to play yet again another a sexy seducer.”

Then that’s rather stupid isn’t it? Because look at the competition. Just against Fala and her character is pivotal; she is the reason why CMY suffers. So why turn down a role that could substantially give you more screentime? I don’t think it was offered to her.

    3. Roger is the King. Ben Wong will take part in. 鐘無艷 will be a strong, smart girl.

      1. LMAO~, then TY will feel regret for denying. But Lai Lok Yi won’t have leading role.

      2. Lai Lok Yi’s face and expression often made me wanna feel asleep

      3. Roger is brilliant casting. Of course Chung Mou Yim is strong smart girl, if not how she can do what she is said to have done?

    4. Fox,
Personally I find that Fala’s looks suit the role of the beautiful concubine, Ha Ying Chun, more.

Roger as an indecisive, lustful king? Hmm…not too convincing but we’ll have to see.

      1. I think Sharon looks good as Ha Ying Chun. Fala’s outfit is quite nice, showed her strong character.

      2. Yes I think Sharon and Fala both look nice in their character and outfits.

      3. @Jayne,

Remember that Roger Kwok is an experience actor, I have doubt about the convincing part. I think he would be able to play his role great.

    5. What? Kate and Tavia reject a role? I thought TVB artists cant reject a role and have to be obedient?

      1. I think if you’ve reached certain level like FADAN like Myo, Tavia, Linda and Kate, you may atleast say no those uninteresting script offer by producer.

      2. But if the producers and the managers say “Yes, you have”, even these actresses like Myo, Tavia, Linda and Kate have to say yes to the role. They can refuse, but with the acceptance of the producers and their managers.

Only ppl in higher status than them can say “No” to any script or choose script to act.

    1. Fala is not up to Best Actress standard yet. Her acting has ups and downs. She can be good in GW, horrible in LTT, and soso in LOO. I do like her because she’s very pretty

      1. I guess Fala still gives ppl the pretty vase vibe more than a good actress lol.

      2. I think madame Jo is kinda bland. Maybe if fala wasn’t opposed to kissing scenes, we could see a little more spark btwn her and laughing. Other than she looks like his old gf and the challenge of dating your boss, I honestly don’t know why laughing likes her.

BTW, did they ever explain how madame Jo got promoted to that high rank? It’s like the CIB has some age limit on hiring. Other than the leader damien, everyone is young. Usually they have at least 1 old guy CID in the police dept.

And another thing bugged me in the episode where laughing got ambushed by lat keung. Fala calls for back-up by saying “madame Jo calling”. Isn’t it more professional to identify your full name when requesting back-up f/ the call center?

  13. Fala the msot beauty of the fighting ladies but sorry to say her acting not up par yet for tv Queen. Wait a few more years!

  14. Tavia, Myolie, Kate, Linda and Fala. I think the winner is Kok Sin Lei, in the hotel lockdown series. But being TVB, I guess it will be rigged.

    1. My favorite performance this year so far is out of the loop…..Yoyo Mung in Only You..It’s also the first time I feel she truly lead the drama on her shoulder.

      1. Totally agree which is why I wonder if he means anything to win a TVB award anymore??

  15. I am shocked that Fala says that he doesn’t dream of becoming TV Queen. Isn’t this the same person that said that they wanted an Oscar??? I guess maybe she has awaken to reality now…

      1. Oh yea that is true… But if she can’t even win TVB Queen, then an Oscar is just something that she can dream about…

      2. People should dream high so that even if you don’t meet that dream the position you reach will not be too shabby.

      3. @Fox,

Maybe she’s trying hard now but no one notice her potential yet…?

  16. Most tvb dramas are male oriented….agree with Kidd on this:
“If having a strong actor together in the series means not leading a series, then, how many actresses have lead a series on her own?”

Linda was 1st female lead in quite a lot of series. If you want to define lead as a central character then there’s A Journey Called Life which kidd already mentioned and Twilight Investigation.

    1. @Karl,

Sheren Tang for example can lead a series so is Liza Wang.

On the series Superwoman who has ADa Choi in, i really focus only on Ada and i think she’s a leading material in the series, moses n etc were just 2nd lead.

      1. @Veejay,

Just wanted to clarify that I didn’t imply there wasn’t any, just few in tvb dramas. Agree that Ada as superwoman was central character in Fly with Me.

I was just responding to an earlier comment that Linda never really “lead” a series 🙂

      2. @karl,

No worry, I didnt take you as someone who agree that tvb is a male dominant oreintal series. I was just sharing my point of view that’s all. 🙂

  17. Is it just me or is Fala getting older during the past few years???

    1. Her facial structure is the type that ages very very fast. She may be decent when young but will not age well at all. Which is why when people say that she is pretty and all, I don’t really see it because I know that her “beauty” will not last as long as others who have a more fuller face.

  18. Hahahahahahah Fala Chen, worst actress ever. That ending in Lives of Omission, she was smiling as she was falling to her death. Most awkward facial expressions and I would never believed she was a “madam cop”. If she wins – then it proves TVB actresses are all so horrible and there are NO standards.

On the other hand, Kate Tsui played the emotions and vulnerability of her character amazingly. I hope she wins an award.
