Fan Bingbing and Li Bingbing are Breaking Up TFBOYS?

It’s slowly becoming the land of “little fresh meat” in China, but are the fans ready for a new generation?

The extremely popular Chinese pop trio TFBOYS, with an average age of 18 years old, is said to be breaking up soon, and the source of the split is said to be Fan Bingbing (范冰冰) and Li Bingbing (李冰冰), both who vie to recruit one of the members under their wing.

TFBOYS, which comprises of members Karry Wang Junkai (王俊凯), Roy Wang Yuan (王源), and Jackson Yee Yangqianxi (易烊千玺), debuted in 2013 and blew up the following year with the chart-topping hit “Manual of Youth” <青春修炼手册>. For the past five years, TFBOYS remained a heavy presence in Chinese-speaking markets, and the three members have all pursued successful solo careers. In 2017, the trio landed on the 17th spot on Forbes China Celebrity List with earnings of over 100 million yuan, and in the previous year, TFBOYS leader Karry came in sixth on China’s Wealthiest People Born in the 90’s List.

But now that TFBOYS have hit their five-year mark, gossip has been circulating about whether or not the boys would stay together in the near future. According to recent reports, industry giants and rivals Fan Bingbing and Li Bingbing have been eyeing to sign the boys under their wings, and if that ends up being true, TFBOYS could end up splitting.

Rumors of a split started flying right after it was reported that the boys would be establishing their own individual studios to manage their solo work. Allegedly, Fan Bingbing has been looking to sign Roy ever since the two collaborated in the film L.O.R.D: Legend of Ravaging Dynasties <爵迹>. Fan Bingbing also attended Roy’s 17th birthday party in 2016, and called him, “My Yuan’er.” Some sources even claim that Roy has already signed with Fan Bingbing.

As for Li Bingbing, the Transformers: Age of Extinction actress has been considering the leader Karry, who was spotted at several events with the actress. Li Bingbing has also been mentoring Karry on acting—and the young star is indeed a new actor to watch, as he did score a leading role in the 2017 film Namiya <解忧杂货店>.

Jackson, on the other hand, is rumored to be working closely with Vicki Zhao Wei (赵薇), who is reportedly interested in managing Jackson’s career.

As for these breakup speculations, TFBOYS’ representatives issued a statement clarifying the reason behind their personal studios, explaining that the boys wanted to have more resources in managing their solo careers.

Fan Bingbing’s Younger Brother to Make Debut

Whether or not Fan Bingbing ends up signing Roy, the actress does have another “little fresh meat” prepared to show the market—her 17-year-old brother Fan Chengcheng (范丞丞), who recently came back to China after training in Korea. Chengcheng is a trainee of the talent agency Yuehua Entertainment, known for its partnerships with K-pop companies such as Pledis Entertainment and Starship Entertainment.

Though Chengcheng has yet to make a debut, the young singer-to-be has already built a large following, and he will soon be participating in the reality show Idol Producer <偶像练习生>, a boy group survival show.

  1. is FBB basically pimping his younger bro? I find this “young fresh meat” trend so gross.

    1. @karina “Gross”??? How so? I don’t follow or know what “little fresh meat” is, but it sounds like they’re trying to get and promote young people hoping they’ll become the next sensation… or at least milk a lot out of their idol-statud. Unless they do x-rated stuff or things that K-pop is scrutiny for (like prostitution, escorts, so forth), how’s this any different than Disney kids celeb and turns them into idol status, ie Miley, Selena, Demi, Jonas brothers, etc.

  2. China, hk and Taiwan male pop stars all look like Korean boys. Same makeup, hair and fashion style. With so much make up, and beauty product use, even rotten meat can turn into fresh meat. Google’s fbb brother old pic, very ordinary but he looks totally different now.
