Feng Xiaogong Returns to Dramatic Programming

On September 16, Beijing media reported that Chinese film director Feng Xiaogang (冯小刚) has officially started work on his upcoming web drama drama Bei Zhe Nan Yuan <北辙南辕>, roughly translated to North Point, South Point. It has been 23 years since Feng has last stepped foot into a television production studio to make a dramatic series.

Bei Zhe Nan Yuan follows five young city women who band together to open their own restaurant called Bei Zhe Nan Yuan, learning much about themselves and each other on the way.

Though the studios have had a tight wrap behind the production of the show, paparazzi did spot Wang Luodan (王珞丹) and Lan Yingying (蓝盈莹) filming the series. On that particular day, Lan looked like she was sick and coming down with a cold. Feng was on set leading the direction.

While both Wang and Lan are relatively well-known actors, they both lack the “it” factor to maintain a long running successful acting career in China. Feng’s Bei Zhe Nan Yuan may be the series to push both starlets to A-list status.
