Four Celebrities Stay Healthy and Young by Being Vegetarians

For many celebrities, having a youthful image and excellent physique are critical to their career. While many entertainers follow rigorous fitness plans and use facial masks to maintain their best image, some entertainers become vegetarians to look younger and be healthier. Here are four male artistes sharing how they started and the health benefits they got from being a vegetarian:

Jacky Cheung (張學友)

Age 57. Vegetarian experience: 20 years.

Jacky’s long vegetarian experience started when a fan gave him a book on Buddhism during his global concert tour in 1993. Although the book piqued his interest, Jacky was not committed to being a vegetarian until he married and paid more attention to his health.

After combining simple exercises and following a vegetarian diet for just a year and a half, Jacky has never felt healthier. Additional benefits include odorless sweat and better skin complexion.

Gilbert Lam (林韋辰)

Age 56. Vegetarian experience: 13 years.

Gilbert can thank his filming in Malaysia to kick-start his vegetarian diet. While the Malaysian locals enjoyed cooking with lard, Gilbert was worried about the calories and thus began his vegetarian diet.

It was initially hard for Gilbert to be a vegetarian and he felt his energy level decreased. Fortunately, Gilbert didn’t give up and he definitely felt healthier in just three months.

Jackie Lui (呂頌賢)

Age 52. Vegetarian experience: 20 years.

One day, the star of wuxia drama, The Smiling, Proud Wanderer  <笑傲江湖>, found a vegetarian booklet while on set. As he continued to read, the booklet made a strong impression and he became a vegetarian ever since.

He often shared with his friends that he felt energized from being a vegetarian, got a better immune system and faster recovery times.  Jackie opened a vegetarian restaurant in Shanghai, in addition to filming web-cast videos on vegetarianism topics.

Joe Ma (馬德鐘)

Age 50. Vegetarian experience: 10 months.

The 50-year-old star is currently filming for Life on the Line <跳躍生命線> and looks as fit as ever! This year, Joe started to make healthier diet choices and transitioned from a reduced-meat diet to a vegetarian diet.

In six months of being a vegetarian and refraining from drinking coffee and alcohol, Joe lost 10 pounds while seeing improvement in his skin complexion and health.
