Gallen Lo Returns to TVB for New Drama “The Conspirators”
Gallen Lo (羅嘉良) has confirmed that he will be returning to TVB this year to shoot the upcoming television drama The Conspirators <與諜同謀>. Principal photography will commence in March, and it is expected to take at least two to three months to complete.
According to official announcements, the award-winning actor will be starring as the swindling CEO of a large shopping enterprise. Gallen said he was drawn to both the story and the role, a morally ambiguous character. He added that it’s been many years since he last filmed a Hong Kong drama and is looking forward to come back and meet his old colleagues.
The 53-year-old’s last TVB drama was the 2009 anniversary drama Born Rich <富貴門>. Though the epic drama was a popular hit, it failed to impress critics. Gallen has since relocated his career focus to Mainland China, and signed with Ciwen Television.
The Conspirators producer Wong Wai-sing (黃偉聲) said TVB and Gallen has always remained in contact, but due to Gallen’s priority projects in China, the two parties failed to find time to collaborate again until now.
Wong Wai-sing added that Gallen’s role in The Conspirators was tailor-made for him. When he first approached Gallen about the project, he did not have a script in hand, but Gallen immediately agreed to do it after hearing more about the story and his own role.
A female lead for the drama has not been chosen yet, but With or Without You <東坡家事> actress Jacqueline Wong (黃心穎) and singer-actor Fred Cheng (鄭俊弘) are confirmed to be in supporting roles.
Wong Wai-sing said he has a few actresses for the lead female role in mind. Although Gallen has not requested to work with anyone in particular, he believes the actor may be more interested in working with artists he has never collaborated with before, hoping to create some new sparks. Quite a few artists have heard about the news of Gallen’s return, and are hoping for the opportunity work with him.

This better be true otherwise I’m going to sue tvb! Best news I’ve heard!!! I’ve been waiting for this moment since 2009. Thanks Jayne!!
@glff15 I hope TVB casts an actress worthy of Gallen’s talent. Please don’t let him babysit a 20-something actress.
@jayne Yes, I really hope TVB either brings back someone like Jessica, Kenix, Ada or Flora to co-star with him or cast someone that can actually go toe-to-toe with Gallen.
im sick of the miss hk taking the leads… hope it’s someone with plenty of experience!
Please give us a good female lead!! PLEASE!!! Excited to have Gallen back! Always been one of my favorite TVB actor!!!!
@happybi yes very good news to hear gallen come back,i hope nadia chan could be the female lead.
why do i have a feeling that grace chan will be a part of this. she could be the lead or one of the leads. i can’t think of anyone w/ experience can be the lead, nancy or ah-tin maybe?
@m0m0 I really hope TVB doesn’t cast Grace Chan to co-star with Gallen, but then again, it’s TVB so who knows what they are going to do.
I won’t get my hopes up that this will be a success until there’s more info released.
Well, let’s see….Wong Wai Sing is the producer and if he is the one making the decision (that’s a big IF given TVB’s politics), he will likely use one of his ‘regular’ artists. If that’s the case, it’s highly unlikely that someone like Grace or Sisely will even be considered, since he rarely (if ever) worked with them (again, this is based on the assumption that he’s the one making the decision on female lead and not TVB management doing it behind-the-scenes). Looking at the list of artists Wong Wai Sing has worked with who are still ‘signed’ with TVB (whether via management contract or per series contract) and who are at ‘lead’ level, my guess is probably Nancy Wu, Joey Meng, or Linda Chung. (Age and experience wise, Kristal Tin is also a possibility, but again, I’m thinking WWS will probably choose one of the artists he collaborates with regularly first before looking ‘outside’).
With that said, I’m holding out hope that they invite a veteran actress back to star opposite Gallen. I know Jessica Hsuan has said she’s not keen on returning to TVB and having to go through their grueling schedule again, but considering that this is her old friend Gallen, plus producer Wong Wai Sing (whom she has collaborated with many times in the past, most notably on the 2 Ah Wong series – Square Pegs and Life Made Simple), there’s a good chance she might agree if both of them asked (and schedule permits). Oh and if Roger Kwok is able to participate, that would be icing on the cake (again, another possibility given Roger’s relationship with both Gallen and producer WWS) – if that happens, it would be just like old times and I would watch the series for sure, regardless of who else is part of the cast (though of course whether I`ll enjoy the series or not will be dependent on how the script turns out, but at minimum I would watch the series).
@llwy12
Nancy and Kristal will be filming the OT sequel so it can’t be them. Maybe Joey Meng then ? I would be fine with either Joey or Linda as long as it’s not Sisley or Grace. TVB politics will always be calling the shots so we’ll see…
One of my all time favorite actor since i was a kid!!! Please cast a good female lead. Going to be super mad if Sisley or Grace is going to be part of it
There’s a side of me hoping TVB will cast Sisley, Grace, or anyone else that’s irritating, just to piss you guys off. *evil grin*
Please let the female lead be Jessica Hsuan!
Please let the female lead be Jessica Hsuan!
Please let the female lead be Jessica Hsuan!
Screw trying to create new sparks! Rekindle old ones!! XP
@jadio
I highly doubt any actors of that calibre would come back unless they had an absolute reason to.
Great to see GL back.
Female lead or non-lead, please no 5th grade amateur ie. sisley grace toby.
I think it’s great to have him back but then I remember lots peoples are disappointed at him for cheated on his first wife. I’m hoping the female would be either Nadia Chan, Anita Yuen, Kenix Kwok, Joey Meng or Flora Chan these ladies are old enough to match him on screen. Lol. If Grace or Sisley put together with him I guess he can be the uncle instead a couple.
I like Anita Yuen and him in Born rich. The chemistry was so real. They didn’t end up together in that series so hopefully TVB give them another chance this time 😀
Alice, Adia are good too. And I know this might be odd for some, but why don’t TVB try out Natalie Tong as first female lead for once? I think it will be a turning point for her career if they do. Yeah just my wild thought. She’s improved a lot though.
Don’t like Joey Meng ugh please no, no…cross my fingers. I’ll not watch it if it’s her. She’s probably one of the very few veterans I think that can’t act. I normally support veterans but Joey Meng sucks!
@kaykay408 Yeah. He and Anita Yuen were great that time!!!! Too bad kpop and k dramas were still not popular that time. If it is, maybe they will end up together.
I look forward,to his return if not for the story then for his stellar acting and I hope he finds a befitting costar. And I don’t mean Kristal or Nancy or the likes. Find her outside of tvb.
love Gallen! this is awesome news!
yes i am with everyone, please please please no sisley or grace.
