Gong Jun’s Recent Dramas Were Ratings Disappointments
With The Legend of An Le <安樂傳> and Rising With the Wind <我要逆風去> airing to less-than-ideal ratings, lead actor Simon Gong Jun (龔俊) has been criticized for being the “male version of Angelababy” — a pretty face but unable to make acting improvement.
“Better Scripts Next Year”, Gong Jun Promises Fans
Pairing with Dilraba Dilmurat (迪麗熱巴), Gong Jun’s costume drama Legend of Anle fared poorly due to excess changes from the original novel which resulted in a lackluster plot, on top of mediocre CG effects and the lack of chemistry between the leads.
Similarly, Gong Jun’s currently airing urban romance Rising With the Wind co–starring Elane Zhong (鍾楚曦) also failed to live up to the pre-release hype. Critiqued for its old-fashioned storyline, it faced stiff competition from Bai Lu (白鹿) and Dylan Wang’s (王鶴棣) Only for Love <以愛為營>, and also Leo Luo Yunxi (羅雲熙) and Zhang Ruonan’s (章若楠) Love Is Panacea <治癒系戀人>, which aired in the same slot.
Aware of a string of poor reception for his works, Gong Jun allegedly broke down into tears several times during his 31st birthday meet-up with fans recently, breaking fans’ hearts. The idol promised, “Next year my scripts will surely not disappoint”, showing his awareness of criticism of his poor judgement when it comes to picking out scripts, after the success of Word of Honor <山河令>.
Investors Lose Confidence in Gong Jun
Originally scheduled for filming in December, the actor’s upcoming drama Hold a Court Now <我們與法庭的距離> has also been delayed due to hesitation on the part of sponsors!
Rumored to be dropped by investors who expressed a lack of confidence in Gong Jun as lead, fate of the actor’s upcoming drama with Ren Min (任敏), is now uncertain. There was also word that lead actress Ren Min’s romance with her boyfriend who’s also the drama director has ran into problems, adding to the drama’s woes.
Gong Jun and Ren Min had both dropped out of filming for The Elephant Cannot Fly <會飛的大象> at the start of the year. All eyes will now be on Gong Jun’s Fox Spirit Matchmaker <狐妖小紅娘月紅篇> in which he stars with Yang Mi (楊冪), and Shooting Stars <群星閃耀時>Ren Min’s next drama with Li Xian (李現).
