Heartbroken Fans Watch Wu Chun Getting Beat Up in “Kindachi Case Files”

Handsome Taiwanese singer and actor, Wu Chun (吳尊), is starring as a guest actor in the manga-based Japanese TV series, Kindaichi Case Files: Hong Kong Kowloon Treasure Murder Case <金田一少年之事件簿－香港九龍財寶殺人事件>. At yesterday’s filming, Wu showed his professionalism when he dropped his handsome image and took a major beating. While filming in Hong Kong, the crew members and cast were being booed and scolded by many onlookers due to the anti-Japanese sentiment happening in China.

Wu Chun plays an inspector in the TV series that stars Hey! Say! JUMP ‘s members, Yamada Ryosuke (山田涼介), Arioka Daiki (有岡大貴), and actresses Kawaguchi Haruna (川口春奈) and Viven Hsu (徐若瑄).

Wu Chun has many onscreen performances with Yamada Ryosuke, who plays Kindaichi. However, when filming an action sequence at Tai O, Wu was the only one in the scene, and he appeared to be beaten heavily. The scene was made more realistic with ambulances and police cars present. Many fans and onlookers believed that a major crime was occurring.

A few dozen of Wu’s devoted fans were at Tai O watching their beloved idol getting punched repeatedly. Although heartbroken, they were also impressed by his performance. Wu Chun was punched hard in the face, and he eventually fell flat on the floor. His acting was extremely credible as he displayed great pain and anguish. Wu re-shot this scene a few times to get it perfect. Despite the beating, Wu appeared to be calm and professional. Wu did not use a body double at for the physically demanding scene.

Many of Wu Chun’s devoted fans filled the Tai O harbor causing many nearby stores owners to become upset with the filming. The tension was possibly caused by anti- Japanese sentiment due China and Japan’s dispute over the Diaoyu Islands. During the first day of filming at a local market in North Point, many of the store and street vendors were rude and yelled at the Japanese crew. Even at a remote location such as Tai O, there were complaints about the filming. Despite the many challenges the Japanese crew faced during the filming, they remained focused on filming the drama.
