Hu Ge Plans to Take Hiatus to Study Abroad

Hu Ge (胡歌) has confirmed the rumors that he will go on a hiatus to study abroad.

Earlier this month, a rumor started spreading online about Hu Ge’s plans for 2017. According to the rumor, the Nirvana in Fire <琅琊榜> star will be going to the United States to study English in March, before attending a directing and film class at the New York University in July. After completing his courses there, Hu Ge would return to China to helm his directorial debut.

At an awards ceremony that Hu Ge attended on Tuesday, the 34-year-old actor said the rumors were only partially true, saying, “I’m sure many of you have read the rumor that was spreading online earlier. I do have plans [to study abroad], as I’ve always wanted to advance my studies. However, I still don’t know where I want to study, and what I want to focus on yet.”

This shouldn’t be a total surprise—last November, Hu Ge hinted to his fans on Weibo about wanting to return to school. His post read, “If I could have the opportunity to learn and study steadfastly, I am willing to give up everything I have now.”

In related news, an insider revealed earlier that Hu Ge would be reuniting with his Nirvana in Fire costars Wang Kai (王凯) and Jin Dong (靳东) at the Spring Festival Gala later this month. Hu Ge said he has received an invitation, but he has yet to receive information about that night’s programming.
