Hu Yitian Wants to Play More Realistic Roles
Chinese actor Hu Yitian (胡一天) became a rising star after breaking out from popular high school romance A Love So Beautiful <致我们单纯的小美好> in 2017. Since then, he has played many cold and intelligent characters. In a recent interview, he shared that though he is thankful for the opportunities, he hopes to play more realistic and down-to-earth characters in the future.
During the airing of the actor’s campus romance Unrequited Love <暗恋橘生淮南>, viewers could enjoy Yitian’s greatly loved high school and college looks. When asked how he felt about playing the role, he said, “The character Sheng Huainan is like a good gentleman. He won’t speak very directly, so I’m quite similar to him in that sense.” In terms of emotional expression, he believes he is more conservative than the character.
As for the differences between Sheng Huainan and his A Love So Beautiful character Jiang Chen, he expressed that they are both smart, but Huainan possesses this quality where he gives others a sense of alienation. “He may seem very polite, eat the same canteen food as you and speak the same language as you, but you will always feel like he’s not in the same dimension as you,” Yitian said.
Playing brainy student roles for two times now, there were curiosities on whether he enjoys these characters. Yitian shared, “It’s not that I prefer them, but [I] am very passive to scripts and roles as a rookie actor.”
After being able to portray a stubborn character in You Complete Me <小风暴之时间的玫瑰>, Yitian has become more hopeful to play less idealistic and more life-like roles. As for the future, Yitian looks forward to challenging himself with different kinds of script and characters. In particular, he wants to make breakthroughs and avoid being typecast.
