Hugo Wong Replaced by Derek Wong in “Amelia’s Rhapsody”
Embroiled in a scandal earlier, Hugo Wong‘s (黃子恆) role in Amelia’s Rhapsody <愛美麗狂想曲> has been apparently replaced by Derek Wong (黃建東). The drama also stars Ali Lee (李佳芯), Moses Chan (陳豪), and Matthew Ho (何廣沛). Hugo was mysteriously absent from a recent filming shoot, which led to speculations that he has been dropped from the drama.
Hugo admitted that he had slept with a Mainland Chinese fan, known as Michelle, who later claimed to have gotten an abortion after getting pregnant. Michelle’s allegations led to an outcry against Hugo, who is thought to be temporarily frozen by TVB.
In Amelia’s Rhapsody, Hugo’s character has a romantic arc with Zoie Tam (譚凱琪). Both artistes were at the drama’s promotional event, but Hugo was noticeably absent from cast members’ Instagram posts after filming started. Instead, in his place was Derek Wong who took a selfie with Zoie.
When reporters asked Derek about the matter, he clarified, “We are playing different roles and the reason people didn’t see Hugo was because he wasn’t in that shot. Like Hugo, I am also playing a businessman. I will be acting as Zoie’s boyfriend, so there is a relationship line in the drama.”
Putting in a good word for Hugo, Derek believes that viewers will not boycott Hugo just because of his scandal. Derek said, “I know Hugo personally and he is a very nice person, so I don’t think anyone will try to boycott him. If anything, it will probably be me first. I eat a lot so people are always scared I will eat all the food.”
