IU is Offered Record-Breaking Appearance Fee for Netflix Drama?
South Korean artiste IU has seen her popularity hitting new high after appearing in a string of successful projects. For her next drama, IU will be collaborating with Park Bo Gum in Netflix’s You Did Well. According to sources, the streaming giant is offering IU an appearance fee that doubles the amount paid to Song Hye Kyo and Jun Ji Hyun.
IU is rumored to be paid 500 million won per episode for the 16-episodes series. In comparison, Song Hye Go and Jun Ji Hyun were offered 200 million won per episode for their respective roles in Now, We are Breaking Up and Mount Jiri. IU’s record-breaking fee would put the actress on the same pay scale as top-billing actor Kim Soo Hyun.
While Song Hye Go and Jun Ji Hyun were previously the first South Korean actresses to see their appearance fee break above 200 million won, it is likely for their fee to increase. After the success of The Glory, many industry insiders believe that Song Hye Go’s fees will see a big increase; however, it is also believed that the actress’s fee will be lower than IU’s fee even after the increase.
In response to the rumors, the production team and Netflix are maintaining confidentiality and insist that actors’ appearance fee could not be made public.
