Jay Chou Decodes His Daughter’s English Name “Hathaway”

In July, Jay Chou (周杰倫) and wife Hannah Quinlivan (昆凌) welcomed their first daughter, nicknamed “Little Chou Chou.” Jay is still deciding on a Chinese name, but the singer revealed last week that they have decided on the English name “Hathaway” for their little princess. Many fans assumed that Jay and Hannah were probably fans of the Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway, but it turns out that “Hathaway” actually has an entirely different meaning.

A few days ago, Jay made a rare public appearance in Taiwan to attend a function for a mobile phone brand. His daughter, Hathaway, became that night’s center of attention, which Jay didn’t seem to mind at all. He shared that he has lessened his workload in the last few months to spend more time with his daughter; he also revealed that he is now “very skilled” in changing diapers and warming milk. He added that his dog is very jealous of Hathaway getting all the attention, and would bark whenever she cries. Jay said, “I’m so tired!”

For his daughter, Jay said he turned down many performance offers, including lucrative offers like year-end concert performances. The 36-year-old musician, who has also found success in the film industry as a director, said he would no longer be directing movies in the time being. “I will not be directing movies anymore. It takes too much of my energy and time.”

When asked why Jay and Hannah decided to name their daughter Hathaway, Jay explained that Hathaway is a combination of the words Hannah, thaw (melt), and Jay, meaning that Hannah has melted Jay’s heart.
