Jennifer Yu receives Best Actress Award
Held on the evening of March 15, Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild, graced by actors and actresses the likes of Sammo Hung (洪金寶), David Chiang (姜大衞), Louis Koo (古天樂), Carina Lau (劉嘉玲) and Johnnie To (杜琪峯), gave out six major awards to best-performing artistes of the year.
Second Best Actress Win
Stealing the limelight were actors Tony Leung (梁朝偉) and actress Jennifer Yu (余香凝), who nabbed her second Best Actress win for her role in In Broad Daylight <白日之下>, after being named by Hong Kong Film Critics Society recently.
Expressing her excitement at winning alongside the legendary actor, Jennifer was thrilled and the award trophy would have a special place at home.
Shedding tears of joy after the ceremony, Jennifer explained that she had a delayed emotional reaction to the win due to her “stage anxiety”. “Since young I’m someone who appears steadier the more flustered I was, so no one could tell I was anxious. But I was really thrilled!”
Describing the award as a very significant win, Jennifer had not anticipated the win and spotted many friends and directors she had worked with at the ceremony, which made it all the more meaningful. Bumping into many industry veterans who had “seen her grow up”, Jennifer said, “That got me all emotional!” Forgetting to thank her manager on stage, the 30-year-old expressed her gratitude afterward, “My manager has been with me since I was 16, (she’s) just like family to me.”
Daughter Wants Mommy’s Trophy to Play Emma Stone
Intending to celebrate the win with her family, and her daughter during her upcoming Easter break, Jennifer’s daughter had watched segments of the film, and sang praises of mommy’s performance. Sharing that she had watched parts of the Oscars’ award presentation with her daughter, Jennifer said, “After that (she) wanted to pretend to be Emma Stone! After watching once she actually remembered the thank you speech, and wanted my trophy from HK Film Critics Society as a prop. I was wary that she might break it, but also felt miraculous that (Clare) has her interest piqued by this, while mommy is also an actress”.

I genuinely believe she made the correct decision ending her 5 year relationship with Carlos Chan. Jennifer is ambitious: 2 best actress awards from the director’s guild and 1 restaurant business on the side and 2 kids before age 30. Carlos Chan admitted in an interview, he was lost for 15 something years in his career and had no ambition and even his own manager called him out. Carlos needs a woman with less ambition and married a beautiful wife Shiga Lin. Shiga, is so pretty & talented but way less ambitious than Jennifer. Congrats Jenny!!!
