Jet Li Rumored to Star in “Blades of the Guardian”
Encountering health issues in recent years, Jet Li (李連杰) had cut down on work. His last movie was Disney’s Mulan in 2020. Even then, Jet’s scenes as the emperor were limited. Recently, there are rumors that Jet will star in a live-action movie remake of popular manhua Blades of the Guardian <鏢人>. It is said to also star Wu Jing (吳京) and Nicholas Tse (謝霆鋒). The wuxia movie is directed by Yuen Woo Ping (袁和平). Filming commenced in July.
The story is set in 607 AD and people are living under the brutal rule of Emperor Yang Guang of the Sui Dynasty. An extremely skilled armed escort traverses the desert of the Western Regions. While pursued by the imperial court, he takes on an escort mission with the destination of Chang’an, the capital. Mistaking it for a simple escort mission, unexpected dangers surface and a shocking conspiracy is revealed.
Wu Jing is the producer of Blades of the Guardian and will also star in the lead role as the mysterious armed escort. The other two important roles are likely taken by Jet and Nicholas. Tony Leung (梁家輝) and Kara Hui (惠英紅) will be making cameos.
Fans are very excited at the prospect of seeing Jet on screen again, but are also worried whether he can handle the toll of action scenes.

I doubt he will perform all action scenes himself…body doubles and stuntmen are all ready and in place. I am keen to watch.
