Jinny Ng and Hana Kuk Compete for The Voice Entertainment’s No. 1 Sister
Ever since Jinny Ng (吳若希) resumed activities, her rivalry with industry junior Hana Kuk (菊梓喬) is what kept the gossip columns busy. Her hiatus—which was due to an unexpected pregnancy—was what made The Voice Entertainment push out Hana Kuk as the industry’s newest star, and Jinny, who was once regarded as Voice Entertainment’s number one sister, finds herself in tough competition.
In April, both Jinny and Hana took part in the OST for the TVB drama The Defected <鐵探>. Out of the two singles, Hana’s “I Finally Cried” <鋼鐵有淚> was the more popular hit, with YouTube views breaking 600,000. Jinny’s “I Remember” <我記得> reached 500,000 views. 2019 appears to be Hana’s year thus far.
But the two starlets aren’t the only competing singers in Voice Entertainment. Shiga Lin (連詩雅), who debuted in 2010, recently joined the Voice family in December, and her single “Walk Alone” <獨孤行>, Cantonese theme song for The Legend of Dugu <獨孤天下>, also surpassed 600,000 views.
The Voice Entertainment also appears to be contributing to the rivalry—Jinny’s birthday party with fans and Hana’s three-year anniversary fan meeting were both held on the same day. In an interview, Jinny said she didn’t know Hana’s fan meeting was held on the same day as her party, saying, “That’s interesting! It doesn’t really matter in the end, because we have different fans. I’m more concerned about our staff. Having two different events on the same day is tiring.”
In regard to her music video having less views than Hana’s, Jinny said, “I never look at views, but I’m really grateful to the fans for supporting it and liking it. I worked very hard for this music video. We shot it for 24 hours straight, and we couldn’t afford to make mistakes. The cameraman carried the equipment for an entire day. It was tiring that he ended up falling.”
As for the competition for being the Voice’s number one sister, Jinny said, “I may have a lot of fighting spiriting but it’s not because I’m competing to be number one. Quality is more important. I actually want to be the young one. I get to be taken care of.”
Hana said she doesn’t want to compete with her senior, saying, “She is the top one! She sang her song better, and I love her. There’s no point of making it into a competition. You listen whatever you like to listen to. It’s a very subjective thing.”
The Voice Entertainment CEO Herman Ho (何哲圖) said both Jinny and Hana each have three singles released for 2019. “Our job is to release good pop music,” he said.

Sign… Jinny is the top star. Hk music is really dead. In the glory days, Jinny would have just been a third line bench warmer while Hana would be a second line singer.
