Karl Ting Admires Roxanne Tong
In the latest episode of Tiger’s Talk, hosts Christine Ng (伍詠薇) and Bob Lam (林盛斌) interviewed the young, rising stars of TVB: Dickson Yu (余德丞), James Ng (吳業坤), Telford Wong (黃庭鋒), and Karl Ting (丁子朗). The four actors shared their stories of when they first started in the industry and also revealed which TVB actresses are goddesses in their eyes.
Telford Entered the Show Biz Through a Well-Known Actress
Before stepping into the limelight, Telford was teaching physical education at an international school in Hong Kong following his return from the United Kingdom and his subsequent studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Three years into his job, one of his student’s mom decided to bring him into the industry, and that parent was actress Astrid Chan (陳芷菁).
Seeing that he caught the eye of Astrid, Christine sat on his lap and asked if Telford had a lot of mom fans from teaching. The 32-year-old frankly said, “There was a Japanese mom who was pretty young. I taught her son swimming, and she would wait for me after school in short shorts and a tank top while stretching in the yard. I would leave through the back; it was embarrassing.”
Karl Is a Favorite Among Tvb Executives?
As for 23-year-old Karl, he made his debut through the Mr. Hong Kong 2016 contest and was fortunate enough to host the TVB Anniversary show as his first job. Bob joked that Karl captured the hearts of TVB’s upper management, which is why he can enter any floor in the company. Karl responded while laughing that he keeps pressing the wrong elevator button but acknowledged that TVB gave him many opportunities within these two years, which he believes is because his pay is low, and he is willing to do any work.
Dickson’s First Acting Experience
Likewise, TVB has also showered Dickson with many chances to shine, including his first acting experience in Two Steps From Heaven <幕後玩家> as a reporter. The 30-year-old recalls feeling nervous as a new actor with little to no experience, but luckily, he met some amazing coworkers on set. “I remember during filming, TVB training class students, Kelvin Lee (李興華) and Feifei Chu (朱斐斐), were also present, and they shared some of their lines with me because you don’t get paid unless you have lines in the show. I didn’t say my line well and got in trouble with the director. Kelvin helped me out of the situation, and I am very grateful for him.”
James’ Results Exceeded His Expectations
James, 30, is another artiste who has received much love from TVB’s management. The singer-actor has been given notable drama roles since playing Katy Kung’s (龔嘉欣) brother in his first series Come Home Love <愛·回家>. In regards to his results in the industry, James joked, “[I] didn’t think it would be this amazing!”
Christine laughed and said, “You are brave to say this! You are crazy!”
Their Favorite TVB Actresses
Although the four actors still remember their newcomer days as if it was just yesterday, a lot of time has passed since then, and they have all encountered a lot of beautiful actresses. Knowing this, the hosts asked them to name their TVB goddesses. Karl admitted he admired Roxanne Tong (湯洛雯) even before he entered the industry. He said, “I think she is very pretty!”
When asked if he is angry at Kenneth Ma, Karl expressed, “No! I admire from afar!”
On the other hand, Dickson said he prefers the sporty type like Sisley Choi (蔡思貝). He added, “But not exactly her personality!”
Beauty queens are quite popular among these men, as Telford picked Tracy Chu (朱千雪) for her beautiful smile, and James chose Crystal Fung (馮盈盈) as his goddess. James shared, “So nice! When we are alone, it is relatively quiet. I can accept it if one of us is loud. Also, she is very hot!”
