Kate Tsui and Raymond Lam End 2012 Magnificently
Not winning the Best Actress and Best Actor Awards at the TVB Anniversary Awards is only a small setback for Kate Tsui (徐子珊) and Raymond Lam (林峯). With initial high hopes and big fan bases, it is no wonder both of them were disappointed the top acting awards did not go to them. However, both of them have since moved on and were grateful for an abundant year of accomplishments in 2012.
Awards are recognition of one’s work and efforts. However, not winning does not equate to an artist’s failure, as achievement should not be measured by awards alone.
Kate’s Rewarding Year
Looking back at Kate Tsui’s 2012, she received acclaim for her role in Highs and Lows <雷霆掃毒> and finally won over her critics. On the surface, Kate may indeed have lost the TV Queen title. On a deeper level, winning the audience’s acceptance is itself an award.
Kate gushed, “What I said [at the 45th TVB Anniversary Awards] were my true feelings. Knowing that I have so many supporters really warmed my heart. I have indeed gained much more.”
Kate has been working non-stop and now that the holidays have approached, she finally can pause and take a breather. After gathering with family and friends on Christmas Day, Kate will fly to Beijing the next day to start work again. She is now working hard to save money to buy a big house, so her family can move in with her.
At least Kate walked away with the My Favorite Female Character Award at this year’s TVB Anniversary Awards. Going to the Awards show with high hopes but leaving empty-handed, the strike must have been harsher on Raymond Lam. Feeling aggrieved for Raymond, Kate said, “I’m so disappointed for him. He does so well in every aspect of his career.”
Raymond Continues Hectic Work Schedule
Right after the Anniversary Awards, Raymond rushed to mainland China to continue filming a television series. Not only that, he would be busy recording music and training physically, in preparation for his upcoming concert, “A Time 4 You Raymond Lam’s Concert 2013” to be held at the Hong Kong Coliseum on January 26, 2013.
While the Anniversary Awards may be over, the music awards season will pick up. Notably, TVB’s very own Jade Solid Gold Top 10 Music Awards Presentation <十大勁歌金曲頒獎典禮>, will be held in January. For the past 3 years, Raymond has won the Asia Pacific Most Popular Hong Kong Male Artist Award. He is a hot contender for a fourth consecutive win.
No matter they win or lose, Kate and Raymond understand that awards are not the be-all and end-all for artists. Neither should it be a yardstick to measure their hard work.

Do people even care About the jade solid awards now?
That award show has been a joke for years, nobody seem that alarming since the Big 4 fiasco or even Jacky Cheung’s idea to combine the awards.
The awards are pretty pointless now.
Why aren’t they good any longer? Forgive my ignorance but could someone please enlighten me on that?
Perhaps Raymond should concentrate on his music and go on to still greater heights. Acting should be just a hobby for him.
kate, raymond, ron ng and mandy wong all shared the same manager.. i believe their success will be greater in future since all of them are capable in their acting, dancing and singing..bit of failure dont mean forever will fall, its an motivation to work harder..TVB jade solid gold this year might be the end and if raymond still win the most popular (as usual), that might be meaningless and JSG are still having difficulties with the 4 records companies..

I like to know how they measure their fan base. How do they know they have a bigger fan base to the other artists? If it is superficial like how many signs are held up at an event then it really accounts to nothing.
Everyone knows that these so call ‘fans’ are paid $200-$500 per event to hold up signs. You can tell when they hide their faces behind their signs.
Sure there are some genuine fans who enjoy their dramas and music but how many of them are willing to pay $$$ to buy their cds and not illegal download their drama? So how can they measure sales and viewing?
雷霆掃毒 was not a bad drama. I wouldn’t say I like it becoz of Kate and Raymond only. I think everyone did a great job together and the success should be attributed to all not just these two.
I agree, not Ray and Kate make the success of HAL but actually the success of HAL shines the two and they did good in HAL. I don’t really know about the price actors/actresses pay for play their fans but I know Kate’s forum has increased members since HAL, and Ray’s forum has enormous members before. I truly believe Ray has lots of fans and Kate gains more fans after HAL.
LMAO why i havent gotten a check yet for being a fan?? 🙁 and why he dun gimme free ticket to his concert or free albums but i have to go and buy it myself? sad sad .. HAL was okay to me simply because I adored Michael Miu’s acting. Towards the end when it’s about Kate & Raymond, I couldn’t bear their acting at all. I asked around and most of my friends watched HAL for Michael Miu more than for Raymond or don’t even mention Kate.
I totally understand Raymond’s disappointment because he was nominated for so many years and came a long way.
But Kate shouldn’t expect to win. Highs and lows may be her best work so far but still far in comparisons to Tavia, Myolie and Michelle. I am disgusted with get comments in interview when she said she gained a lot of support from colleagues and stuff. Most actors and actresses supported Tavia and Michelle. She thinks too highly of herself and her so called acclaimed performance in H&L.
The way she was rallying for votes were annoying. It was a good thing she dint win. Otherwise, she would snub all the other fadans, thinking she’s the best out there.
that’s right. i don’t remember any actress/actors actually supported Kate other than Raymond. while others have voluntarily publicly supported Tavia like Myolie, Michelle, Linda, Fala, Kenneth, Damian, Mary, Elena and even Chow Yun Fat mentioned highly of Tavia. Michael even said he’s on neutral side even tho Kate asked him to cast his vote for her, in return, Michael asked his wife to vote for Tavia.

“My favorite female character”, the award that Kate have received, decided 30% by TVB managers and 70% by TVB staffs. Obviously when she got an award, she had to thank all of her colleges and TVB staffs voting for her. And voting for her means they approve that she’s capable of getting an award, I didn’t see what’s wrong in her statement. All the colleges support Tavia over Kate since they know her better I guess and I’m sure none of them watch either series.
Anyway, Kate has gain a lot of supporters through her roles in HAL and I mean if you don’t like her, no matter what she does you still don’t like, simple as that. But others have different preference and simple as that, just accept it as different opinions and others accept yours.
I agreed. The way she campaigned herself and how she practically begged for votes kinda rubbed me in the wrong way. Her acting in general is quite bland. And her personality…well from the outside she seems like a typical girl who is a bit high demanding and arrogant. I mean campaigning for votes is not a bad thing at all but constantly talking about it in everything is quite needy. I mean for other artist and TVB workers to comment on how she asked them to vote for her….

I agreed that if people don’t like her, they won’t like what she does. But there must be a reason why people don’t like her….. And her winning “My favorite female character” is an obvious win. Usually people vote a person for “Best Actress” and vote the second in running for the “My Favorite Female Character”. That’s almost always how it is. Like Kenneth Ma had mention on how some artist dreads on winning that award.

I don’t mean Kate deserves the BA award but getting “my favorite female character” also requires voting from TVB staffs and I just comment on the fact that it’s quite normal for her to say she get acceptance from her colleges (since some say they disgust by her thank speech). And there are another 8 contestants (exclude Tavia) in the list, so she must be the best among the nine.
@Alice: There are thousands of reason ppl don’t like each other and many ppl don’t like each of the five fadans. I think Kate is always given the role with very bad character and the media always give rumour about her. I didn’t like her from the beginning but I met her once in the airport, she’s quite nice and friendly. The way she talks about the prize and the role is humble, don’t know why you say she’s arrogant. She even says she know many ppl don’t like her, and she’s so happy now cause many accept her. I found the speech is quite touch.

I understand your opinion very much:). But if it takes to meet a star for a person to come to like her than wow…Sometime a person’s face comes to affect your career. Kate’s face is of someone who is strong,feminine, lustrous, and villainous. Those characteristic often leaves a bad impression on viewers. So I understand what you said. But when I see her in interviews and stuff, I don’t see her honest side. I don’t see a humble girl, all I see is this forward and pushy girl. Perhaps she is one of those people who can’t express well in the media but is actually a humble and down to earth girl. But overall she isnt the best actress out there but I want to see more versatile roles. She mainly plays a headstrong woman who ends up being in distress and it gets boring on my account. I want to see her in the cute and down to earth roles which she had some time before but honestly her actings in those role sucks a lot. Her face is a bit too arrogant so she can only play a certain type of role. And those roles aren’t favored usually so I understand her disadvantages but I just guess it will take a lot for me to like her
I am Raymond’s fan…Of course…I am a bit upset that Raymond did not get the award…but…life never prefect…Raymond is still young…I am sure he will has his time…in fact…he still has a lot of job in China…filming industry and music industry….LOVE Raymond…hope he will be have a success year in 2013

Firstly, I don’t think we should use the word hate because it’s a strong word. I don’t hate Kate because I don’t know her personally. It’s just an opinion about her acting, how she rallied for votes and how she answered the media in interviews after the ceremony.
She definitely deserve the my fav character award because that was the most interesting lead female character last year and she did quite well in it. Just that her acting is still not as good to win
