Katherine Ho and Ex-Husband Issue Joint Statement about Divorce

Debuting in the entertainment industry after snagging second runner-up in the 2014 Miss Hong Kong Pageant, Katherine Ho (何艷娟) has made up for her lackluster career by being a staple on the front pages of entertainment news for her personal life. At just 26 years old, Katherine married her then 66-year-old husband, Wu Zhicheng (吳志誠) in July 2018. Though the popular saying goes that “love knows no age”, the couple’s 40-year age difference drew much skepticism. Netizens were quick to brand Katherine as a gold-digger, as Wu Zhicheng is the CEO for Macauslot and is estimated to have a net worth of $3 billion HKD.

This week, Katherine announced the couple’s divorce. Prior to the announcement, however, she was photographed kissing 55-year-old billionaire, Anson Chan (陳燿璋), who is the elder son of Hong Kong educator Chan Shui Kui (陳樹渠). His family assets are estimated to be worth over $10 billion HKD. Reports were quick to highlight Katherine’s presumed upgrade, trading up for a younger and richer man.

To squelch the rumor mill, Katherine and her ex-husband issued a joint statement to address the issue: “To avoid unnecessary misunderstandings, we actually split up last year. We have since lived our own lives separately from one another. However, both privately and publicly at events, we have maintained a great friendship. We are thankful to have met one another. Our relationship never involved finances or money. We split up under friendly and understanding circumstances. Our breakup did not involve any monetary disputes. We remain good friends.”

The statement revealed that Katherine’s marriage lasted less than six months long, shorter than the initial reported time frame of nine months.
