Katy Kung Suffers from Heart Issues
Returning from a one month trip in Japan, Katy Kung (龔嘉欣) clarified rumors that she has been neglected by TVB. Although she had returned to Hong Kong before the TVB Anniversary Gala, she did not attend due to heart issues.
“I was born with cardiovascular complications where the blood vessel is off center. When it acts up, my chest hurts and I need to take medication to slow my heart rate. It is a big operation to fix it, so my doctor advised against surgery. The Anniversary Gala is a very long event and would have taken a toll on my health, so the company was very accommodating…. I already knew of this problem when filming Treasure of Destiny <新四十二章>, but didn’t say anything to cause unnecessary worry,” Katy said.
Addressing concerns as to why Treasure of Destiny was not included in the Anniversary lineup, Katy explained TVB wants to release it concurrently in Hong Kong and China. However, additional postproduction edits and dubbing have to be completed first.
Nominated for Best Actress for Brutally Young 2.0 <十八年後的終極告白2.0> and Touch the Sky <回歸光影頌:究竟天有幾高>, Katy is happy the roles resonate with the audience. “Many friends have already voted for me, and reminded that I should start campaigning for myrself!” She is more confident with her performance in Brutally Young 2.0 due to her chemistry with Shaun Tam (譚俊彥). “We were able to create many surprises– he really doesn’t care about his body and let me hit him repeatedly!”
With Katy’s temporary absence from TVB events, it is rumored that she had angered TVB executives. Denying that she is being “frozen,” Katy replied, “The company takes good care of me. There are plans for me to film a new drama–the character is full of positivity.”
