Kay Tse is a Full-Time Mother
Kay Tse (謝安琪) enjoys her family time so much she doesn’t know when she’s coming back.
The Cantopop goddess attended a grand opening event for a new Chinese snack shop opened by her good friend Oscar Siu (蕭潤邦). Kay is one of the shop’s co-investors.
Currently on hiatus to take care of her 5-month-old daughter, Kay told the press that she’s on indefinite leave from the music industry, and she doesn’t know when she’s going to come back.
“I’m not ready [to come back] anyways. I’m still so fat!” (It’s about your voice, not looks!) “It’s a different situation now. After having my first child, I kept myself in work mode every day, but that mindset has changed. I really enjoy the life I have now. It’s been so relaxing and free.”
In March, Kay gave birth to her second child Karina. Kay joked that her daughter is already an artist in training, as she would make different drool designs on her crib. Her 10-year-old son James, on the other hand, recently joined a football team.
Despite her indefinite hiatus from the music industry, Kay keeps up with her social media to update her fans about her family life. She’s made only two public appearances since Karina’s birth—once in July for her daughter’s hundred-day banquet, and earlier this month in Causeway Bay for Oscar Siu’s snack shop. Kay said she is a longtime friend of Oscar’s, and that her decision to invest in his shop had something to do with her interest in starting her own business.
“I really want to start a lifestyle business, maybe make things like detergent or reusable bags, but it’s a hard industry.” (When do you want to start?) “Within the next ten years.” (That’s a long time!) “I need to do more research!”
After Kay’s interview, the media reported about Kay having intentions to retire from showbiz. Her husband, TVB actor Louis Cheung (張繼聰) clarified in a phone interview, “She knows she is not in the right condition to perform at the moment. The baby comes before anything else. She is absolutely mazing. I’m so thankful that she took on the reigns of caring for the family, so I can concentrate on work.”
So is Kay planning on coming back anytime soon? “She’s not ready, but no one knows what will happen in the future. But as her husband, I will support her in every she decides to do. I actually have contradicting thoughts about this. She is very good singer, and it will be a waste of talent to see her leave, but I know how hard this industry is, and as her husband I don’t want her to suffer.”
Will the couple plan on having more children? “I think two is enough,” said Louis with a laugh.
