Kenneth Ma Doesn’t Mind Waiting for Niki Chow for 10 More Years
Kenneth Ma (馬國明) and Niki Chow (周麗淇) met up in a recent event to promote their drama Rogue Emperor <流氓皇帝>, which is currently airing on TVB Jade. Rogue Emperor was filmed two years ago, and was Kenneth and Niki’s first collaboration.
Rogue Emperor is a remake of 1981’s The Misadventure of Zoo <流氓皇帝>, which starred Adam Cheng (鄭少秋). Kenneth plays Adam’s role, an unassuming country boy who ends up on a whimsical journey across China to chase his beloved.
As it has been a while since Kenneth and Niki last met, the two friends immediately started picking on each other at the first chance they got. Kenneth started to nag Niki about leaving for China all the time, to which Niki said, “But I heard you recently bought an apartment! How come the whole world knows about this? Did they give you a discount?”
When reporters asked Niki if she would pay Kenneth’s new home a visit, Kenneth immediately said, “When are you going to come visit my mom? Make Auntie happy! Gossip magazines say my mom really wants one (daughter-in-law).”
“But my mom probably won’t be happy!” said Niki, poking fun at Kenneth’s apparent wealth. “What if you’re not actually a [diamond] bachelor?”
How has Kenneth changed in the last two years? Has he become more flowery? “Of course,” Kenneth replied for Niki. “I don’t even know why people think I’m boring. They just don’t know how to appreciate me. I don’t act like this in front of just everyone.”
“Are you confessing your love to me now?” asked Niki with a laugh. “I’ll consider it. Are you single now?”
“Of course. Think about it. Take your time. Take ten years if you have time,” said Kenneth, causing Niki to burst out laughing. She then asked Kenneth for his age, to which he said, “Doesn’t matter! Just don’t wait until I’m 90!” Niki said she’s still a very career-minded woman, but Kenneth said, “It’s fine! Take your time.”
When reporters pointed out that it looked like Niki was giving him lemons—meaning someone who can never get what he wants—Kenneth said, “That’s fine! Lemon tea is my favorite drink!”
Mentioning that Rogue Emperor only includes 17 episodes, Kenneth said, “Adam Cheng’s version was also under 20 episodes!” Niki agreed and said, “Many Korean dramas are also like that!” As for the drama receiving satisfying viewership ratings, Niki suggested Kenneth to treat the cast and crew for a meal. Kenneth retorted, “You’re the one who is making bank in China!”
