Kenneth Ma on His Friendship With Kevin Cheng

While promoting The Queen of NEWS <新聞女王>, Kenneth Ma (馬國明) clarified on the status of his friendship with Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎). The latter said he will not be attending Kenneth’s Bali wedding in December, which fueled speculations they had a fallout. Kevin received criticism for calling spending time with A Fistful of Stances <鐵馬尋橋> family meetups “a waste of time.”

Coming to Kevin’s defense, Kenneth said, “He has three young children and our wedding ceremony is [in Bali] so it would be very difficult for him to take several days away from his family. Even if Kevin couldn’t make it, it’s not an issue. I definitely understand. We didn’t invite too many people either – we only invited around 60 people.” Kenneth then joked if his wedding were held in Hong Kong, Kevin’s absence would be a different story.

Since filming A Fistful of Stances, Kenneth remained good friends with Jazz Lam (林子善), Stephen Wong (黃嘉樂), and Natalie Tong (唐詩詠). Originally part of the Fistful of Stances family, Kevin recently made a snide comment about these gatherings, calling them a waste of his time.

Kenneth reasoned that if he had children himself, he would probably decline social gatherings more often as well. The actor shrugged, “Jazz also attends fewer of these dinner parties after he had children. I don’t know why there’s a rumor about Kevin and I being on bad terms.” Asked when was the last time he saw Kevin, Kenneth said, “I don’t keep track, but he missed a couple of our last outings. I don’t really mind because this is very typical with close friends. If they have time, they’ll come. We’re very casual about this.”

Hoping netizens won’t continue to blame and criticize Kevin for his no-shows and comments, Kenneth stressed Kevin may initially seem gruff, but this is because people are not close with him.

Shocked by the rumors as well, Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) shook her head in disbelief and said, “Really? Aren’t they really good friends? I don’t believe this at all.” Having dated Kevin many years ago, Charmaine shrugged when she was asked about the situation. She added, “It’s okay – it’s not the truth anyway. I think it’s funny how the situation ended up like this.”

Busy Preparing for Wedding

Also at The Queen of NEWS event, Regina Ho (何依婷) chatted briefly about her own upcoming wedding after having recently attended Kayan Choi‘s (蔡嘉欣) wedding as a bridesmaid. Regina realized how much work it is to organize a wedding. Keeping her lips sealed on the actual wedding date, Regina only revealed she will be back in Hong Kong in time for the New Year. Although she does not have solid plans on the honeymoon yet, Regina disclosed she will be going on a Hokkaido ski trip with her husband in January.
