Kevin Cheng’s Mentor, Dai Si Chung, Passed Away

Kevin Cheng Ka Wing was filming an outdoor scene for new TVB series, Home Army <居家兵團> withLiza Wang Ming Chuen and Bernice Liu Bik Yee. Kevin’s former music mentor,Dai Si Chung, died of a heart attack yesterday. Prior to his death, Mr. Dai allegedly asked his elder daughter, Dai Wan Wai, to contact Kevin. However, due to his contract dispute with Mr. Dai several years ago, Kevin allegedly refused to visit Mr. Dai on his death bed. Denying that Dai Wan Wai called him, Kevin said that he called Mr. Dai’s younger daughter, Dai Sun Wei, but received her voicemail instead.

When Kevin first entered the music industry, he had a very close relationship with Mr. Dai and even regarded him as a “father.” In 1993, Mr. Dai gave Kevin a watch, which he has kept until this day. Reporters asked whether Kevin had resolved his complicated relationship with Mr. Dai, which was marked by gratitude and hatred. Kevin said, “There is only gratitude and no hatred left. He is no longer alive! Although there were disputes between us, the most important thing is the funeral arrangement right now. I send my condolences to the Dai family.”

Did Kevin regret that he could not see Mr. Dai before he died? “I do not want to increase the family’s troubles at this point.” Perhaps due to Mr. Dai’s death, Kevin appeared to be full of grief yesterday. He indicated that he will be attending Mr. Dai’s memorial service.

Jayne: Not to speak bad of a dead person…but my first reaction when I found out about Dai Si Chung’s death was: karma. He is known for squeezing money out of his former contracted artists such as Kevin Cheng and Daniel Chan. He claimed that Kevin’s contract has a lifetime clause in it, which allowed Mr. Dai to continue to take commission! I hope the Dai sisters do not have this vindictive nature.
