Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won Face Marital Crisis in “Queen of Tears”
Premiering on March 9, Queen of Tears stars Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won as a married couple in crisis. Renowned screenwriter Park Ji Eun, who wrote Crash Landing on You and My Love from the Star, is behind the script for Queen of Tears. With many scenes shot overseas, there are many beautiful backdrops and the emotional scenes are expected to be beautiful and riveting.
Coming from vastly different backgrounds, Hong Hae In (Kim Ji Won) is the heiress to a large industrial conglomerate, while Baek Hyun Woo (Kim Soo Hyun) is born and raised in the rural countryside and worked hard to become a lawyer after graduating from a prestigious university. In their third year of marriage, a troubling crisis bears down on their relationship, and they must learn to overcome the odds and work together to preserve their love.
This will be Kim Soo Hyun’s first big drama in three years after completing his military service. Hoping to find a special project to helm his return, Kim Soo Hyun was excited when he came upon Queen of Stars and could not stop reading the script. He expressed, “My character is full of charm. He is charismatic, intelligent, and stubborn. I wanted to mix up these traits and portray it in a way that will make viewers both laugh and cry. Kim Ji Won and my characters [at the start of the drama] will have already been married for three years. Although we still feel love for each other in our hearts and would feel happy and excited when we see each other, it becomes difficult to express.”
Regarding her role, Kim Ji Won said, “I haven’t portrayed a rich character like this in a long time. She is a character who has to navigate a 3-year marriage. My character also has a lot of complex emotions to sort through. This was a challenging role for me.”
