Kim Soo Hyun to Attend Taiwanese Fan Meet Amid Scandal?

Previously confirmed to participate in a Kaohsiung Cherry Blossom Festival scheduled for March 30, Sunday along with other stars from the region, there has been uncertainty looming over Korean star Kim Soo-hyun‘s attendance, amid the looming controversy which has seen him dropped by brands.

Sentiment towards Kim Soo-Hyun

The star’s 40-minute performance on the last day of the Kaohsiung public event was slated to be a key highlight of the music festival, and lucky fans have already been picked for a meet and greet session with him. However, Korean media reported that the Taiwanese public’s sentiments towards Kim Soo-hyun have turned negative due to his scandal, with a wave of requests for ticket refunds.

Meanwhile, Taiwanese consumer associations have said that refunds will be difficult since the festival is not a personal concert. Additionally, as the meet and greet component of the event was complimentary, organizers will not be accepting any discount, transfer, exchange, resale or refund requests even if there were to be changes or rescheduling of the fan meet.

Amid this, event organizer Uni-President Enterprises was quoted as saying that the festival will “go ahead as planned”. Korean netizens’ comments have been varied, ranging from “I thought he was holding a press meet this week???”, “There’s no way he would be expecting a warm welcome from Taiwan” to “Is he testing to see if he has enough fans left to continue his activities?” and “Does he still have fans?”

Faces Hefty Penalty for No-Show

A publicity poster lists Kim Soo Hyun’s appearance on March 30 where he is scheduled to perform from 9.20pm to 10pm.

The festival website, which states that its 2024 debut edition had “attracted more than 60,000 people within three days” invites participants to “come to Kaohsiung in March to experience a unprecedented romantic music festival…through romantic visuals, cherry blossom-themed decorations, and pink food and drinks, together with well-known casts to sing romantic songs”.

It is reported that Kim Soo-hyun would face a hefty penalty of 30 million NTD if he does not show up, explaining why some comments called him “money-loving” and pointed it out as a key reason for him showing up as planned.
