Leanne Li on Loving Wong Cho Lam

After tying the knot in 2015, Leanne Li (李亞男) and Wong Cho Lam (王祖藍) welcomed their two daughters Gabby and Hayley in 2018 and 2020. Married for nine years, their relationship always came under scrutiny due to their physical differences.

A Miss Chinese International 2005 winner, Leanne towers over Cho Lam with her 5-foot-9-inch frame. Due to his looks and short stature, Cho Lam grew his career opportunities through his comedic roles and creative talents.

In a recent interview, Leanne revisited questions about why she chose Cho Lam to be her life partner and revealed all of his positive qualities. When they first met, Cho Lam was 25 years old and already extremely hardworking and ambitious. “Despite his small stature, he took on the load of supporting his whole family. At the time, I felt like he was like a big, strong tree and was able to make those around him feel safe and secure. It isn’t that he successfully wooed me, but love chose us.”

Leanne pointed out Cho Lam was also a sentimental and loyal person. Despite his busy schedule, he will make time to celebrate his mother, Leanne, and their daughters’ birthdays. He would also make sure to often call his mother, grandparents, and in-laws to check on them.

Making sure to spend time with family, Cho Lam makes the effort to take his family on vacation regularly. Praising him for his dependability, Leanne recalled, “Even when he is holding his daughters’ teddy bears, he will still insist on carrying everything else for us. This image will always be embedded in my mind.”

Grateful for Cho Lam supporting her dreams and passions, he said, “After giving birth to Gabby, I fell in love with cooking. Cho Lam encouraged me to publish a cook book. Last year, he even encouraged me to start drawing again and helped me plan an art exhibition. He will not find it annoying and happily accompanies me to take pictures, even if he only had four hours of sleep after a long workday.”

As a closing remark, Leanne reflected, “People say loving someone is like taking care of plants. The flowers will bloom beautifully depending on how much care you put into it. If you were to ask why I married him, this is the answer.”
