Lee Heung Kam Winds Up in a Wheelchair
When the 81-year-old Lee Heung Kam (李香琴) starred in a Snickers commercial that involved her playing association football with a group of high school kids last year, the veteran actress and singer was praised for her refreshing vigor and youthful attitude. But a few months later, Kam Jeh was reported to have fallen in her home three times and sustained minor bone fractures in her waist and thighs.
Due to the fall, Kam Jeh is unable to use too much strength on her legs. The need for a wheelchair became necessary. Although Kam Jeh is now released from the hospital, she has to report to her doctor every week for physical therapy, and had to rely on her male domestic helper to carry her to the hospital bed.
Kam Jeh, who is known for her excellent memory in reading scripts, is also reportedly suffering from memory loss due to aging, causing much worry among her family and friends. Luckily, Kam Jeh’s filial son-in-law, Fu Yum Chor (傅蔭鎈), is a doctor, and willingly forked over $1 million HKD for her hospital bills.
A Buddhist, Kam Jeh has been active in the Hong Kong film and television industry since 1946. In 1950, the then 18-year-old Kam Jeh married Cantonese opera master Siu Chung Kwan (蕭仲坤), and the couple had one daughter. In 1957, Kam Jeh and Siu divorced. Though Siu and their daughter had immigrated to Canada, they often return to Hong Kong to visit Kam Jeh.
Kam Jeh’s last acting performance before her hospitalization was 2010’s Can’t Buy Me Love <公主嫁到>, portraying the grandmother of the Kam family. Although Kam Jeh has never released a musical album, she frequently performs old-school Cantopop hits with singing partner, Tam Bing Man (譚炳文) at various concerts.

Aw man. I hope she recovers! Hate to see the elder in pain…
Sorry to hear about Kam Jeh’s health problems. After all, she is 81 years old and it is hard to avoid them.
I lost track of how old the veteran actors are. Lee Heung Kam comes across as younger than her age of 81.
The same thing for Wu Fung, one of my favorite TVB veterans. I wish them good health.
I’m glad that she has such filial children. Hopefully, the physical therapy helps her.
Ya, can’t believe she is 81. She looks much much younger and really wish her get well soon. 🙂
Awe I hope she can recover and take good care of her health!!!!
And Jayne, I agree with you. Wu Fung is an amazing actor!! I also liked the one (not Lau Dan, the actor who plays Queenie’s grandpa..? ) who is in Come Home Love right now as well.
His name is Chow Chung (周聰) 🙂
He’s 82 years old now, but seems like a healthy grandpa.
Thanks!
And I totally agree. It’s amazing how they are so healthy 🙂
IMO, this is it. Fall = bad for old people.
My grandma was healthy and all (she didn’t even have osteoporosis!) until her fall at 89. Then it was wheelchair life for her, then dementia, and then she passed away at 94. I think if it wasn’t for that fall, she should still be up and going.
Falling for anyone of any age is relatively detrimental. No doubt a single fall, no matter how big or small for an elderly can be a severe damage. The most saddening thing to see is an elderly going through pain…thankgoodness Kam Jeh is very fortunate to have such a supportive family, and I would also think she has a strong group of friend/colleagues who look up to her and would also give their support no matter what. Despite ‘improved’ aged care services and facilities, it’s quite sad to know that most elderly people dont even have the basic support from their own family members..
Yea and it is hard because once your kids marry and have their own family, it then becomes hard for them to care for their parents. Therefore, many end up in nursing homes which don’t always provide the best care.
Lee Heung Kam wish that you can get better health and hope that you can recover soon is sad to hear this
I hope that she will get better too. It is really serious when an elderly person falls.. One of our family friends was in good health but one day he fell in the bathroom and is now paralyzed. It is scary and hope that she is ok…
I hope Lee Heung Kam gets well soon. I have always admired her acting and singing. Her career has been amazing!! I didn’t realize she was 81 already!
Yes, once an old person falls it usually spells trouble especially if the person has to be laid up in bed with a broken hip, etc. Once, a physiotherapist told a group of elderly people that it was too late now to take calcium pills, etc, and said, “Just don’t fall!”
I hope she can recover soon. She is really nice, friendly and young at heart.
This is sad news. I hope she recovers. This is the type of news that makes one think. You never know what is going to happen the next minute so everyone should cherish their families right this moment.
Agree 😉
Hope she recover soon. She look younger than 81, a very good actress
Yeah, best wishes !!
Get well soon Kam Jeh! It breaks me heart to see old people suffer and deteriorate rapidly before your eyes but you’re helpless even doctors can’t do much for them.
Get well soon!!!!
I love her. Ever since Moonlight Resonance, I always called her granny. She’s adorable, charming, and talented. Hope she recovers quick and takes it easy.
Get well soon *hug* 🙂
When Lee Heung Kam was young, everyone hated her as she always acted those villainous or “3rd party” characters. Even people selling in markets hated her (as what she said). However, she is able to change her image when she gets older. Everyone loves her now, especially after “Moonlight Resonance” and “Can’t Buy Me Love”. Happy for her.
Ah I hope she’ll recover as she’s such a great actress! Love her in Moonlight Resonance!
