Leehom Wang Finally Asks for Gay Rumors to Stop
Taiwanese pop king Leehom Wang (王力宏) has always been very careful with his idol image. He’s only had a few love rumors in his 25-year long career, but one love rumor persisted even after his marriage to Lee Jinglei (李靚蕾). Leehom’s friendship with pianist Li Yundi (李雲迪) was so close at one point that many people believed they were in a gay relationship.
Leehom and Yundi are both musicians, the latter a concert pianist. They have stayed close friends over the years, and for some, too close. Their “relationship” started in 2012. Fans did not hesitate to talk about their close friendship, and gay rumors of Leehom erupted, fooling even industry insiders. Rumor has it that Leehom had gotten into a physical altercation with magician Louis Liu (劉謙), though this was never proven.
Leehom has denied multiple times that he was gay, but the rumors persisted. Soon after Leehom announced his marriage with Lee Jinglei (李靚蕾), Li Yundi followed suit with confirming the existence of a girlfriend. This led to more rumors that the lovers were treating their wives as “beards”.
Choosing to stay low profile, Leehom stopped addressing the rumor and avoided the gossip. It wasn’t until today, eight years later, when Leehom finally decided that it was time to officially pull the plug on the gossip.
In his legal statement, he expressed his frustration at old, unfounded rumors being dug up again for the Internet gossip—and among them, the “Hongdi Love”. He stated that reserves his rights to pursue legal action to those who spread misinformation about him on the Internet.
In an interesting turn of events, Leehom’s legal statement led netizens to speculate that Yundi could possibly be using Leehom for his own fame, as Leehom was already a popular and well-established artiste when they met.
