Linda Chung Goes Undercover in “Tiger Cubs 2”
Despite being one of the youngest first line actresses at TVB, Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) has been in the entertainment industry for nine years. She has successfully garnered a millions of fans as well as the approval of the audience members with her nice girl image. Linda even successfully ventured into the music industry, winning music awards and releasing a platinum-selling album. With a challenging upcoming role in Tiger Cubs 2 <飛虎 II>, photo album release, and a concert, Linda humbly stated that 2013 is a breakthrough year for her.
Linda participated in a photo shoot in Guam earlier and said, “Technology is very advanced nowadays, but I still think the classic photo album brings back great memories. When I was little, I used to collect YES Idol celebrity cards and created albums with them. That’s why when I participated in a photo shoot, it brought back a feeling of nostalgia.”
While she still exuded her sweet and innocent self during the photo shoot, Linda will be going undercover in the upcoming sequel to Tiger Cubs <飛虎>. The character she will be brave and ruthless, carrying scars all over her body. Filming for the sequel will start in June and Linda has done a lot of research beforehand to ensure that she is able to get into character. “I really like this role! I think it’s fresh and different than what I’m used to. Since I also have a lot of fight scenes in the drama, I’m beginning to feel very manly!”

Linda will definitely not look the part as “brave and ruthless”. I think she can carry the part as an innocent looking but actually conniving and devious role. Her face has not aged to that point unless she is wearing heavy makeup.

You never know, she never tried before. Besides she did okay in HOHAV. Everyone deserves a try, she can’t be sticking in the same role all her life.
I thought she did pretty good in HOHAV considering most of her other roles were the innocent and naive type.
She acted mean in born rich. So many years now acting is better. Maybe good?

I think she can pull if off of she can pull of bad girl roles in Gem Of Life and Journey Called Life then I don’t see why not. You never know an actress capability until you see it, besides it’s best not to be typecast. Everyone talked crap bout Heath Ledger as the joker saying he’s too pretty for that role but look what he did he made it a classic. I’m excited for her

Yes she can. Her best roles are those that is opposite what we know of her; the tomboy, the bad girl, the spoilt princess, the villain. I think she can do it.

The majority of us can agree she did well in Jose roles. Just because most of her roles are all good girls doesn’t mean she can’t pull off being something completely different. Why are you judging when the series hasn’t been filmed yet? Who would of thought Mandy would be able to pull off such a obnoxious character in L’Escargot and becoming the cool and confident Madam in Seargaent Tabloid when she started out playing shy roles. It’s unpredictable, Linda is better suited playing villains good girl roles don’t give her any justice to what she can bring to the entertainment. Don’t need to be biased and label her as A good girl from past roles cause many actors won critical acclaim from breaking out of that typecast.

From Mandy’s couple of series, it obvious that Mandy is a versatile actress that can handle many type of characters. She has better acting skill than Linda. In all of Linda’s roles from different series, they are all the same, INNOCENT, QUIET, or GOOD GIRL who at the end ends up with her prince charming.
No offense but Mandy is not likeable. I am sure she is a nice girl, what I am saying is at first glance she is not likeable. There is something rather charming about Linda. I can understand why Linda’s getting 1st choice role. And yes her crying can be annoying but every actress has an annoying trait anyway. And it is not easy playing the innocent, quiet, good girl without annoying the hell out of viewers. I have said this before, and I will say this again, Linda has an ability to connect with the viewers through her roles, she made her roles accessible even if the role is a terrible person, there is something innately good, something that somehow you know redeems her in the end. That’s what makes her a favourite with viewers.
That’s because the producers cast Mandy in roles same with Linda, she don’t get to choose what roles she get it jusst so happens every producer cast her in the good roles, you think she wants them all? Nope, it’s not her fault she gets cast into those type, she don’t got a choice. Linda can be versatile and this can be the start of it.
No offense too. but all of her innocent, weak and good girl role annoys me so much. and i can`t really see any difference between all of her roles, they are basically the same character with same personality & traits. Even with the villain role in Gem of life wasn`t convincing. People just praise her on her crying
I don’t think you know the difference between acting and writing, she did not write her roles she is just doing her job by acting what was given to her. Those goody type roles were not her choice besides she despise them she wants something different. Every actor’s goal is to do something different so why criticize her for trying to do what every actor’s ambition is in the industry. Sure she cries and cries but she’s just doing her job the scriptwriters gave her, you got a problem with her past roles then blame the scriptwriters not her.
Linda versatile, I don`t think so. Although she cannot choose her role or even if she portrays a similar role as the innocent weak character, she`s just re-acting the same character over & over again. She can`t give audience something different for each of her weak roles. She`s using the same thing over & over, no difference.
Haven’t you ever thought all of her good characters are written as the exact same roles she plays? Think about that.
Although the characters are the same, she can do it more differently, not just to repeat the same personalities or traits. Scripts are dead, she needs to create a unique character, which I don`t feel she is doing that. She`s just repeating it over & over again, all her roles are the same.

I agree with rain, she REALLY cannot play these bad girl or strong roles. Her acting tells me that she is fit for those innocent, or cry baby roles, and this is not subjective opinion.
she acts better than tv queen tavia yeung. linda’s beat roles are the bad girl in joourney called life and ms cool in yes sir sorry sir. she becomes talk of town for her sad still birth scene in journey and her crying scene in yes sir sorry sir and both roles develop very well. better than boring tavia.

Again with the crying. All Linda can do is cry and nothing else. Well, this tells me she definitely cannot handle the role. Tavia Yeung is way better for this strong character role instead of her.
I consider journey called life to be Linda’s best and most definitive work, the one that made me love her. I think she does well in strong roles even if she gives an impression she is weak. And she can do silly roles as well even if she may not be ha ha ha funny. I don’t enjoy those where she plays the victim or weak roles in need of protection.

agree linda was amazing in journey called life. her best scene was during the still birth scene and when elaine died. really feel sorry for linda even when she’s supposed to be the bad girl. that shows how great she is.

her role in journey called life is a bad girl not a good girl and she did a great job conecting to audience if audience manage to pity her even when she’s a bad girl.
such as miss cool also manage to connect to audience that’s why she becomes talk of the town, when her female lead costar in the same series failed to connect to audience. don’t even remember her role.

She is labeled as a good girl because that’s what most of her roles and personality in reality is. It ahs nothing to do with convincing since she only played a villain 2 times. She won many fans for Journey Called Life like I did with her. You may think she’s not convincing but most ppl think otherwise.
Tavia played as the villain in Beyond the Realm of Conscience for the first time and it was convincing. So it had said that Linda isn`t a person that can act as a bad girl, villain nor strong roles
Huh? Tavia was atrocious in BTROC (but the writing didn’t help either…). The worst thing about her character was that I felt nothing for her character.

She wasn’t just a “bad” girl; she was a girl who went astray, but you could still see the good in her. She values her friends and she’s a very filial daughter (towards her mum, anyway).
@sel_fi_wu – she wasn’t a bad girl in Gem of Life, just a half-assed one because she was still a good girl at heart and had redeeming characters. She just played the “misunderstood girl who is saved by LUV in the end.” For her to have a breakthrough in her acting, she needs to play a girl who has no redeeming character and is truly bad at heart.

TVB doesn’t think at all. All they do is shove the people they(TVB) love, into a popular drama. The sequel are usually ruin by the new characters. She’s going to ruin the sequel anyway. TVB just stop it with sequels.

Whenever I see or hear the two letters “BB” I immediately think of Linda LOL. DOn’t think the media did her a good favour knowing she is determined to rub off the ‘good girl’ image. Being an artist, appearing versatile is really important to attract different role opportunities..being stimgatised with a title referred to being innocent/Good Girl may just about do the opposite.
I have a feeling I will like her very much in her character for Tiger Cubs.
Though most claim she won’t be able to portray a brave and ruthless appearance or act a bad girl, personally I feel like she might just surprise the audience once they get to see her acting in this role.
Since everyone was so hyped up about her great performance on Practical Joke and deemed her to be the next TVQueen, she might as well be.
But in the meantime, if she wants to at least convince the audience that she can pull of a bad girl image, PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE DEFAULT LONG HAIR LOOK. She practically has the same image in every series, I always find myself confused over which series she is promoting from the photos of her character image that looks almost identical to her previous every time.
Again, it’s crying. again & again with crying. She only fits for those crying roles.

I am not that much into that performance. Sometimes it can be too pretentious. But Journey Called Life, which is an excellent series showcase her in a way I suppose many never seen her before.And it didn’t feel forced.
i actually think linda can improve more in her bad girl manners because elaine had it perfect in the same series, but overall linda’s role was awesome and i really feel bad for her throughout the series although she’s a bad girl. never liked linda in anything else except miss cool and journey called life. i remember crying for linda and steven in that stillborn scene, and i remember feel sad for linda when she git jealous that steven’s siblings have good brother like steven when linda herself is all alone missing her mummy.
as miss cool linda was powerful in the crying scene. noone expect miss cool can cry like that. really hate moses that time and moses acting was also bad so easier to hate him more. don’t even remember what tavia played since she was totally boring and got overshadowed by a merely supporting actress linda at that time.
all she can do is cry, cry and cry, and nothing else.
sel_fi_wu- in Yes Sir No Sir, Linda’s character seemed a lot more complex and so Linda could spar off her acting from there. Linda didn’t surprise me with her acting in Yes Sir No Sir since I personally thought she was already capable with the perforamnce she delivered, I thouht she did quite well in that series.
For this series, I have a feeling she will surprise, but it’s all 50/50 before filming begins. Audiences can either buy her image+performance or not. Hopefully she will get a breakthrough with this role and run from her ‘innocent’ good girl vibe she always gives off, which gets so dull and boring most times imo.
It will be better if TVB uses Nancy Wu instead of her. nancy is far better than her in acting
