Linda Chung Undeterred By TV Queen Loss at TVB Anniversary Gala
Even though her peers have chosen Kristal Tin (田蕊妮) as their TV Queen at the Anniversary Gala, Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) remains confident about her chances to win at the upcoming TVB Anniversary Awards.
Linda has long been rumored as this year’s TV Queen favorite. With the buzz surrounding her latest drama Brother’s Keeper <巨輪>, some speculate that she has the best chance to take the title among TVB’s top-line actresses. The company has also majorly invested in Linda this year, giving her maximum exposure via a debut photo book, a solo concert, and a much talked-about stint on The Office of Practical Jokes <玩嘢王>.
Regardless of the hype, Linda is not yet Best Actress material in her colleagues’ eyes. At the TVB Anniversary Gala on November 19, over 400 artists voted for their TV Queen and a majority of them chose Kristal. While the honor is much-deserved, Kristal’s win came as a surprise and an unfortunate blow to Linda’s odds.
Despite this, Linda continues to look forward to the Awards with optimism. At the blessing ceremony for The Apothecary <大藥坊> on November 20, Linda described the loss as a motivation to try harder. “Actually I am already glad that I am one of two finalists and that my colleagues have voted for me… I hope to see good results at December’s Anniversary Awards.”
Since there are widespread rumors that some artists are signing long TVB contracts in exchange for awards, Linda clarified that she did not extend her agreement. She noted that she has less than five years remaining on her contract, and quipped that it is enough to give her an edge during the TV Queen fight.
Perhaps to further boost that edge, Linda was quick to show support for TVB. While many have placed the spotlight on TVB Anniversary Gala’s low average ratings, Linda prefers to focus on the brighter side. She is happy that TVB is able to fulfill its promise to donate $3.1 million HKD to charities, a figure based on the Anniversary Gala’s peak ratings. Amidst the recent negative reports within the TV industry, Linda also urges the public to think more rationally before placing groundless blame on TVB.

if linda got the tv queen this year it was only because she’s following her turn and tvb is promoting her, when outside her world kristal trampled her performance and got the support from colleagues and audience. wonder if she will be proud to win like this.

I don’t know why Linda wouldn’t be proud if she wins. The colleague voting shows that her fellow artists see her as a deserving candidate. She did place second afterall. I hope the award show replicates the gala results, but Linda is certainly a top contender as the colleague vote showed.
I love Linda, but i didn’t see an out break award winning performing from her this year yet. 🙁

I also think that she isnt best actress material. Shes ok with her acting. Not bad but is far from good. She keeps playing the same roles. As i watch her in dramas i keep thinking havent i seen this character in another drama. When will she choose another role so i can see her improvement? Now she seems frozen in time. Again and again the same acting as 8 years ago

Linda looks very desperate to get TV queen, like she’ll die for one. However, she is really not TV queen material at all.
I wouldn’t say she seems desperate but I guess it’s the promotions that causes her to seem that way. But I must agree with your that she’s not up to standard when it comes to tvb Queen. I hope get doesn’t win it next month!

Judging from her expression from the gala, I think Linda knew herself that she wasn’t getting the BA award.. She had a calm attitude when she spoke what was on her mind when eric tsang and dodo cheng ask the two finalists to explain their current emotions/state of emotions. I feel that Linda was genuinely happy for Kristal. But honestly I think if Linda did win, Kristal will also be happy (:
I think TVB is really promoting her & generating all this buzz.
It’s best she don’t win now, she will in time when her acting improves further- then it’ll be sweeter. If she wins now, it’ll just look “fixed”.
I don’t think Linda will win this year actually. Dodo Cheng was hinting that Kristal will have the chance to “say the [same] words” again next month..
but it’s also quite unlikely that kristal wins BA for her 1st award in tvb. She’s not a biological daughter y’know. She has a real big chance at favourite female character.
Before they announced, both linda and kristal said some words and kristal said ‘i realised my 人缘’s not bad!’ Eric Tsang replied ‘hahaha you also know that this is a 人缘 award!’

Nope, Kristal has been at ATV quite a number of years before coming over to TVB in 2007.
You are right that Kristal Tin was an ATV actress for many years before she joined TVB. She started with ATV in 1995, and her debut was in “I Have a Date with Spring”. She then joined TVB in 2007, already 6 whole years. Therefore, she could be on a management contract. Otherwise, I don’t think TVB would cast her as 1st leads in “No Good Either Way”; “King Makers”; “Brother’s Keeper”; and “The Verbal Side of Court”.
Linda will win the award eventually. Hopefully before Kate does. I think Krystal should win this year. I’m glad she got some recognition and is now considered a top contender.
Please, all of these leading fadans will win eventually, especially since it’s all rigged and fixed anyway.
I am sure TVB alerted Linda that she will not win but will receive a nice compensation (such as more top billing for upcoming series, endorsement fees, singing contracts) for being a team player and letting others pick up the top TVB prize. Linda is astute enough to know that the award means nothing if there is no extra money behind it if the company does not promote her especially in HK. Linda is not a known commodity in Mainland China just yet.

Kristal Tin is not super pretty and or young, but I don’t think Linda Chung is pretty either. Best Actress award is not given to someone young and pretty, it is given to the actress who acts the best in 2013.

No matter Kristal Tin gets TV Queen or not at the forthcoming awards ceremony, she acted way better than Linda Chung in “Brother’s Keeper”. This is fact to most audience.
If you think Linda Chung should get TV Queen award, then Kristal Tin should be a Superior TV Queen award in 2013, still better than Linda Chung.
Dude, take it easy. No need to say Kristal is ugly and old. She’s not. Kristal did indeed act well and her role is quite loved by the majority. U can support Linda just like me but we shall not put down others. Linda is still young and needs to improve. Hopefully one day people will accept her.
